Mares or Geldings?

I have had both and the geldings were more dependable and calmer. No heat cycles and moody days.

I know it depends on the horse and all that but I like geldings 110%. 

Mares drive me insane, and I get the point of stallions but I never did understand the appeal. 

I like mine for work and consistency. I generally find that geldings are more reliable when there’s a job to do and that means more to me than the excitability of mares. 

But I will say when I used to do competitions I liked ridding mares better. They kept me on my toes and I never gave a crap about placing but had fun with the mares moods on show days. It was more fun then geldings. 

There's an old saying:

Tell a gelding,

Ask a stallion,

Discuss it with a mare,

Pray if it's a pony.

I love my mare.  She is so dang smart that she keeps me mentally challenged, but not spooky.   She's rarely "mareish" if ever.   

Plus erections and cleaning the sheath is not really my cup of tea.

I have a mild preference for mares, though geldings are great too.

Mare personality more closely matches my own.

Geldings are pretty much the same everyday. Good or bad. Where Mares come into heat and they can be different.
