would I need this for a road trip?

I live in Toronto, Canada and my boyfriend moved to Michigan. 5 hour drive from me exactly. I know I'm going to have to pass border control, but what would I need to pass from Canada to Michigan? I do not have a passport. If someone drives me, would they need a passport only and I don't need anything? what can be done here? I am on a time crunch for meeting him again as I am expecting.

    You NEED a Passport.

Number one priority thing that is the absolute basic necessity can take 6 months to get.  I'd suggest you start by being able to prove you are a canadian citizen and have the right to cross the border  :)  [which you do not have without a passport]

Not that the borders are open or that either country is allowing anyone to cross unless they are 'essencial'...

"On March 21, 2020, the U.S., Mexico, and Canada temporarily restricted non-essential travel across the US-Canada land borders. These restrictions will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. EDT on March 21, 2021. We are maintaining cross-border activities with Canada and Mexico that support health security, trade, commerce, supply security, and other essential activities while taking critical steps to protect our citizens and to curb spread of the virus."

You always need a passport. You should have a passport already actually.

You need a passport rather you're the driver or a passenger when the border is open. However the border is still closed until at least March 21 and that could be extended again.

The border is closed for non-essential travel. When the border is open, the requirements are a passport, enhanced drivers' license, or passport card for each person in the vehicle.

If you are big preggie, you are not getting in the US any time soon.

If the father is a US citizen, he can apply for US citizenship after the child is born.  But it's not going to happen at this time.

If you were able to come:

    - You need a passport to pass the boarder and anyone that comes with you needs a passport.

    - you need a negative pcr test on both sides of the border within 72 hours of travel.

    - You need to quarantine upon arrival in the US for 14 days.

    - When you return to Canada you need to quarantine in an approved hotel for 14 days and you have to pay for this.  Expect it to cost at least $1500.

  • You cannot enter the US without a passport and the border is currently closed to visitors due to COVID.

You need a passport or an enhanced driver's licence to enter the US by land. Anyone crossing the US border does, except children. A few other IDs are acceptable but if you had one of those you would probably know it was valid for that. It isn't that hard to google 'us entry requirements'. You can apply for an expedited passport. No idea how long that takes. The Canada passport office website will have that info.

Also keep in mind what you may have to do to return to Canada. You didn't say when you plan to travel , but right now coming back to Canada means getting a test for coronavirus before you cross the border and quarantining once you're in.

Both Canadian and US agencies currently advise against travelling within or to both countries unless your travel is essential, and visiting someone is not essential unless perhaps that person is dying.

You absolutely need a passport to enter the USA, no matter how you get there.  The Americans require them now, even if someone else is driving.  So, get yourself a passport.

Currently, there are also Covid restrictions, making the border essentially closed to all but essential traffic.

The border is closed right now.

You need a passport. Each person trying to enter the US needs one.

You also need to wait for COVID travel restrictions to be relaxed as cross-border travel is limited at this time.
