It's a common belief that selfies are distorted because cell phone cameras use really wide-angle lenses. And that's sorta true, but not entirely true. It's just a short-cut way to talk about the phenomenon.

As per various recordings sharing the stunt for taking selfies, holding the front camera to your face really mutilates your highlights and isn't really giving you an unmistakable portrayal of what you look like. All things considered, on the off chance that you hold your telephone away from you and zoom in, you will look totally changed.

They're distorted images captured at a specific moment in time, and they approximate a person's appearance.

All cameras (or more specifically lenses) do distort everything. It's a matter of how much distortion is expected or tolerated. Since the front camera is often made of poorer quality compared to the rear and is made in wide angle, distortion is very obvious especially when the picture is taken up close.

It's all Physics. Pushing the camera further away and using better lighting conditions help distract the viewer from those damning distortion effects.

Wide angle lenses will do that. This dog nose is taken with an extreme wide angle lens. Note how distorted the face of this dog is.

All camera lenses distort the image

if they are too close to the subject.

Hold the camera farther away for better results.
