how would I go about getting a Canadian Passport during the COVID-19 outbreak?

I don't really want to travel during the pandemic but my grandfather is currently dying of cancer in California. I live in Canada right now. My grandfather raised me since I was a child and his dying wish is to see me one last time. How can I get one now that the pandemic has hit us?

You can't apply for a Canadian passport on line. You have to print out the paperwork, fill it out correctly, then submit the paperwork into a passport office in person. You will also need to get a passport photo done, not sure what the protocols for that would be if they're open. I applied for one a few years ago in Ontario.

You may have to go out side your region to find a passport office and passport photo lab that's open, if your region is locked down. You would also have to get tested for covid before you go and when you return. You should also quarantine when you get there and when you come home.

You apply for a passport as you normally would (and expedited if necessary)

Same way you got one before the pandemic. Go to the Canadian passport office website and choose exactly how you want to apply. Of course, you will have to meet the US and Canada's requirements for travel during this pandemic, such as being tested before travel and quarantining after.

You have to look and see if any of the offices processing passports are open. There should also be information online about how to speed the process up. In the US, people can go directly to a passport office and get their passport in one day.

I do need to point out that if your grandfather is in a hospital in the US, you probably won't be allowed to see him. Hospitals are not allowing visitors right now in most areas. Can someone set up a screen where he can see you and talk to you on Facetime or Zoom?
