Extreme thirst and excessive urination.

Your doctor can test your blood for signs of type 2 diabetes. Usually, they'll test you on 2 days to confirm the diagnosis. But if your blood glucose is very high or you have many symptoms, one test may be all you need. A1c.

No symptoms at all. All blood work earlier in the year were pretty much text book normal. November of the same year, new insurance and standard baseline testing with new doctor and new insurance, showed my A1c well into the diabetic range. No extra urination, no extra thirst, weight gain or loss.

-- Constantly thirsty and drinking large amounts, often tired and lethargic, going to the toilet to urinate more often than previously, sometimes fainting.
-- I had many of these symptoms for well over 8 months and fainted once (on a Friday) then went to my family doctor on the Monday saying I thought I had diabetes. The doctor did a finger pin-prick test on a blood glucose machine and the result was 24 (normal is between 4.5 to 8.0). The doctor immediately wrote out a prescription for medicine and also wrote out a pathology request for blood tests and urine test to be done at a pathology collection point. He requested that I come back a week later for a further consultation. When I did, he referred me to a diabetic specialist for further ongoing treatment.

I kept going to the bathroom every 20 - 30 minutes. It was even worse at night time. Couldn’t sleep because of it and when I finally did sleep when I woke up in the morning I was extremely thirsty. It’s a vicious cycle. Thankfully metformin helped and since I lost weight my a1c is a lot lower I feel so much better now.

None, until I had the blood test. BTW, it went away spontaneously this year.
