Can I restore photographs deleted from a memory card?

I have a memory card lying around for 10 years. I erased some digital photographs from it back then. Can I restore these photographs?

Not usually.  With a physical hard drive, when you delete a file the information is still there and can be retrieved with an undelete program.  Just the directory information that points to the file is deleted.

However with a memory stick, because information can wipe in a couple of microseconds, normally when a file is deleted, it really is deleted and no longer on the stick to be recovered.

Yes, you can probably recover the deleted files provided you have not written over them.  I have some software that was made for that purpose that came free with a SanDisk memory card. It works well. It is very slow but it recovers EVERYTHING, even things you would rather it didn't recover.  If you search on-line for image recovery software, you should find several options.
