It is just a culinary fad. Eating raw fish on a regular basis is just a temptation of getting Really sick. Most restaurants hold very strict cleanliness habits, but eventually you will always find ONE that is not.

When you eat sushi, you are not eating the raw fish; you are eating the rice that has been prepared to go with the raw fish. Sashimi actually is the rice dish that includes the raw fish. And no~ it definitely is NOT overrated. It is devine. Learn to eat like an adult and try something new. You will be surprised at how much good food is out there.

That depends on your personal taste. I like sushi which can include raw fish, but doesn't usually. Sashimi is raw fish.

You either LOVE or HATE sushi.  For those who love it, it is not over-rated.

This is the same with bagpipes and with cilantro ... we either love or hate it.  FEW are neutral about these things.  Sushi included.

Yes, that kind of sushi is pretty overrated and ubiquitous

Yep I had the same stupid preconceived notion too, until I tired it. Then I wished I hadn't been so hard-headed for so many years.  Keep you head in the sand if you want - your loss.

The sushi that you're seeing in the commercial restaurants it's not truly raw fish it's flash steamed to kill any bacteria. The only true sushi that you can get which is actually quite good is bagels and lox that's raw but smoked salmon.

I wouldn't and I won't eat cooked prawns, there is a big fuss about prawns and they sell really well but I'm not eating fat worms with legs.
