I thought the left ear was traditional for a man, unless you're gay.

I did in 1972 and I got my balls busted saying left is right and right is wrong.  Supposedly only Gay men pierced their right ear. 

You can do as you please, but if you are going to get one done, why not go for it and do both?  It's a more up to date style.
