For me that would be an update from the 70's....but I am fine where I am.  I believe the ceilings got higher like to 10 or 16 feet so it felt more like an open warehouse you can drive a forklift inside.   I was not impressed in the larger box.  It was minimalist. So no furniture. Really not cozy at all and the heating bills must be high.  Good for storage.  That is about it.

. The more modern you go, the more it stays the same. A bathroom stays a bathroom and a kitchen a kitchen. So what is there really to change? reduce the number of hallways and leave it OPEN except for the center pillars that hold up the roof.? Up and down still use STAIRS. Whether it be the 911 towers or Empire state building or other high building...Like the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy - it has stairs.

Somethings you can't change.(the Pyramids in Guatemala & Mexico have stairs 365 of them to the place of sacrifice where you give your "still beating heart" is torn from your body...to appease the Gods for a good next crop.   [It seems that every God that ever has been created by man "wants blood offerings"  These societies were not in touch with one another due to expanse of TIME and distance.]

. .  So maybe you want to do away with the plumbing and the electrical?  Really get into the GRUNT MODE?  If your TV don't work it is not my fault and if you stink to high heaven again, not my fault.

2000 we have been to the moon, and have nuclear energy.  So not that old.

shabby-chic, chocolate walls with white trim. Metallic wall accents. Colorful and useful items like a cherry red toaster. A grouping of family photos.

White cabinets with granite countertop.  Rustic wood table. Metalic nesting tables.

Hi Kevin, out of the 1980's I see.

Go to Good Will or Salvation Army or the Habitat for Humanity Restore -store.

I can guarantee you that 80% of the furniture there will be early 2000's.  Just ask a sales person: 'Is that chair from the early "2000's?" or 'Do you think that sofa is 20 years old?"  At Good Will, at least, the nice people will help you pick out several pieces of furniture and decor.  Who knows you may even be able to get a TV for $50!

Here's what you should do. Go on Yahoo Answers and troll this question like a million times. That gives everyone a laugh when the newbies waste their time giving you a serious answer. But a proper question deserves a proper answer so get your local graffiti guys to do a spray job to the underside of your bridge for a retro vibe.
