Have you ever been to Japan?
I want to visit Japan, but I would like to know more about it.

Just for 1 day but it was very clean in Fukuoka and a bit pricey, but some places to eat were affordable . You can find a hostel to stay at but I rather go to a hotel since I am willing to pay. I saw the Asahi Beer Factory which was cool. Wish I saw a temple.

I used to live there, and I still go back on business. One thing I can suggest is to get lost. Seriously, just wander around Tokyo. At some point you will get lost, and you will maybe discover something. My favorite spot in Tokyo is the Golden Gai, but that is not for everyone.

Yes, lived there over a decade, and going back and forth there for 40 years. It is quite a place - very old and traditional, yet with very modern tech in many ways. Yes, both do coexist. And pretty much free from fundamentalist religious crap.

Yes, I've been there a few times. It's very organized, very orderly (except for getting on the subway during rush hour, which is later than you think). You can find a lot of information about it online- just Google. They have by far the best transportation system in the world. People are very polite. If you get out of the tourist areas, and go in a restaurant, you may find that people don't understand English (despite the fact that they all study it for 6 years). There are often pictures of the food on the menu- just point to the pictures. Or there may be replicas in the window outside. I have motioned to the server to follow me outside, and then pointed to the food in the window.
The other person is right about good food in the convenience stores'gas stations. Try the rice patties (usually triangular-shaped).

Yes, I went there on business. The weirdest thing I can recommend is that if you are hungry and unsure where to eat, go to 7-11. Seriously. They have really good, fresh cooked food, and very reasonably priced. Also, make sure you are familiar with metric measures. When you get a steak, chances are, the size on the menu will be in grams, 1 ounce is roughly 27 grams, so 100 grams is about a bit under 4 ounces. Try to go to one of the places that gives you a hot plate/stone, and then puts the food on it so you cook it yourself. It's fun. People say Japan is expensive, but I got a filet, veggies and wine for about $30. If you don't know what to order, you can't go wrong with yakitori chicken, which is basically fried boneless chicken. Most ramen places have it. You can spend as little as $10 on a healthy dinner.
If you go to a bar, watch out for Shochu. It's very sweet, and it's easy to drink too many of them. It will knock you on your butt.
When you are in stores, pay attention to the floor. Sometimes, they will have footprints to stand in line. It's easy to miss is, and go to the register in front of other people, which is rude.
If you go out for sushi, get a combination. Don't worry about what you are eating, put yourself in the chef's hands. I'm not a huge fan of sushi, but found myself eating sea squirt and urchin and things I'd never dream of ordering.
Play with all the buttons on the toilet, it's fun. Whatever you do, don't stay on the smoking floor of a hotel. When I went, I had been a smoker for 25 years, and even I thought the stink was disgusting. It will get in your clothes big time. I didn't mean to stay on the smoking floor but the guy I was traveling with didn't smoke, so I switched rooms with him.
Most hotels have very good wifi, but if you are going to venture out on your own, a portable wifi is a great thing to have. I'd just bought one before I went. My office gave me one, but forgot to activate it for international travel, so I wound up using mine. It's great for google maps when you are out walking. You can also rent them at the airport. I paid $80 for mine (I travel fairly often), and I pay $9 a day for data. Just make sure to turn off data on your phone or you will get nailed with international roaming charges.
If you are staying in a major city, get on the train and go to one of the small towns in the countryside. Try to get to a temple, they are beautiful and very interesting.
Have fun.

You'd like to know more about it? Well, let's start with knowing "Japan" isn't actually its name. That's an exonym. It's actual name is Nipon.
