and, thus, by nature fitted to endure.

So

for example

let's imagine that you are in some horrible accident

and as a result

your arms and legs are ripped off.

Are you fitted by nature to bear that?

Or not?

Clearly he was mistaken.

I think this, and any variatio of this is just a very flowery way of saying sht happens, deal with it.
