Are you happy about Voyager carrying info about earth plus its position in space?

or would you rather it was put to a world vote?

Update:

Poseidon. You have to remember, it was written in a universal language, the language of mathematics and the aim of writing it was for it to be understood by all. Anyone who could detect Voyager and retreve the recording would be quite capable of understanding maths.

Update 2:

Steven Hawking was well against it and I can understand him. There is nothing to make us think that if aliens visit us, they will be full of hugs and kisses and bring a load of keyrings for us. We can witness true nature here on earth by watching ants. They bear no gifts when a new termite nest is found. It is simply in their nature to destroy. It could well be the same with aliens and I would have voted against it.

Update 3:

Anon, Ants have evolved much more than any other insect but still are driven by instinct to kill without compassion. As for whizzing across the sky without hurting anyone. there are numerous cases of pilots shot down by them. Also, strange lights were seen in the sky before the 9 Russian climbers were found ripped to bits.

Update 4:

Tim, I agree, but we could all be just as proud if they put inside it, a copy of the rats by James Herbert rather than our address

I bought us some time. I snuck a message aboard Voyager. It says "Eat the skeptics first. They're delicious!".

Any spacefaring species able to recover a Voyager, make sense of the information and travel here within the next few hundred years could probably also detect Earth's extensive radio emissions.

I think it's an extraordinary achievement and something that humanity should be quite proud of.

I hope they included some good recipes. We deserve to be properly cooked.🍽

There are enough planets who can carry life but only a few with oxygen and the size of the earth. We cannot reach these planets and we should concentrate on earth to clean up and heal the planet.  Here is a terrible mess now.

I'm not concerned about this Voyager thing, alien space crafts have been seen whizzing about in our night sky for decades without harming anyone. They may abduct someone occasionally but I feel that is for valid scientific research and is not meant maliciously.

Humans and ants may be vicious predators but surely aliens, being more advanced generally have evolved to a higher, more compassionate kind of being and we have no need to fear them.

    Yeah sure why not

The two Voyagers are now truly interstellar travellers.

Although it is extremely remotely possible that at least one has been retrieved by an alien race but reading and understanding what we sent is another thing.

However, it is very doubtful that this has happened and it is more likely that these two vehicles will continue travelling in space for eternity without ever being found by another race.
