The ancient Greek word for a crab is "cancer." The Greeks also called the disease "cancer" because in late stages, they could sometimes see the tumors spread out from a central mass and it reminded them of a crab and his legs.
The modern name for the 4th sign of the tropical zodiac is "Cancer" for that reason. Nothing else.
