How long after surgery can you get a subbed? ?

Hey, I was just wondering how long after surgery can you get a sunbed? I had a two stage spinal fusion just under 3 weeks ago, I’m not looking to get a sun bed anytime soon as I’m in too much pain at the minute but I was just curious how long after surgery  can you get one? Would I have to cover the scars or anything? I have a scar the whole way down my back and then one across my side so whenever I am able to get a sunbed I don’t really want a big white patch from where I have to cover the scars up! Also would it affect the metal rods in anyway? Thanks in advance

I agree with Pearl, talk to your doctor. Scar tissue doesn't tan like regular skin so tanning will make the scar tissue more obvious. However covering them would give you a white skunk stripe down your back. You're better off leaving them uncovered.

Showed this to my dermatologist friend and she says: Talk to your doctor but sunbeds are not good.  stay out of sunbeds if you can. If you insist on going to sunbeds them wait until you have recovered completely.  Wait until you can easily move and wait until you are off the pain medication. Some medications can make you very sensitive to UV light and you will burn quickly in a sunbed. Really think long and hard about the negative impacts of UV exposure in a sunbed. There are serious health risks linked to tanning and sun beds and anyone prone to spontaneous moles and brown spots should not use sun beds. (That would be me personally) Many Dermatologists would like to see sunbeds and tanning lights banned. We don't hate the sun:  A bit of sunlight is needed for your body to make vitamin D and a bit of sunlight will help you heal faster. There are clinical uses for UV light.  Excess sun exposure or intense UV exposure in sunbeds can do more harm than good. This advice  is not a substitute for anything your doctor has told you and you need to directly ask your personal physician any questions about after care including UV exposure which can be dangerous with some medications. "

So TL;DR talk to your doctor.
