What can I do to keep myself entertained in traffic ?

So my commute home takes 2 hours to go 30 miles, and I get so bored and miserable, however I really need this job or I won’t survive. I can’t really afford to move closer and there’s almost no jobs near where I live, so I’m stuck with this. There’s days where I’m thinking of getting a motorcycle so I can lane split and save over an hour everyday. But what can I do to keep entertained in my car and not come home all stressed and angry?

I would get a motorcycle and split the lane. Motorcycles are fun and I enjoyed riding for 20 years. One time, I needed to go 20 miles away during rush hour and on the return trip, passed the same cars that were still in the jam. Maybe there's a commuter train you could take and read the newspaper or watch youtube every day.

I played Def Leppard and Pat Metheny on the stereo and played my imaginary guitar.   It kept me sane on a long commute.

I used to have a girlfriend that hated wasting time in traffic. She kept a vibrator in the glove box for emergencies. The truckers loved her. If you're a guy I guess you need a Gerbil jojo.

California is the only state that allows lane splitting.

The traffic situation sounds plausible = 2 hours to go 30 miles

But if that's the case, you are in an urban area and there has got to be over jobs nearby.

    - or what kind of mass transit or car pooling available to help your commute.

Learn a language through audio, listen to an audiobook or a documentary on YouTube.

Podcasts.  Try "S-Town".  The only things wrong with it is there's nothing nearly as good.  "How I built This' is very good, as it "This American Life", and "Stuff you Should Know".

Listen to the radio, podcasts, or music.

All of the drivers around you are on the phone, so don't let them hit you.

You should be paying attention to what's going on around you.
