English Football. Any views on the proposal to form a breakaway European Super League which excludes all other clubs ..... ?

One of those situations where you have to pinch yourself or look to see whether it's April 1st?

Updated 6 days ago:

Yeah, Ryan, nice answer and I suspect the PSG situation is more about the French people rejecting the idea of a Bourgeois League which goes right against the grain in terms of Socialism. This would probably make them the most unpopular club in French history and an immediate target for extremists so they would have to tread very carefully.

Bonus Question: Is it right that the three clubs involved in this European Super League should immediately be banned from the current Champions League? .... My feeling is that this should only happen if the league is actually instigated rather than punishing those clubs without law? After all, it's not the players who have made this decision, is it and they are there on merit .....  ?

I wonder how many are thinking along the lines of a board meeting where person says:- "Come on guys, what do the fans really want for soccer to be BIG!!?? ... That's right they want BIG games and BIG names .... we don't want to see Liverpool travel to Scunthorpe on a cold and rainy Wednesday night in the League Cup!! .... we want Bayern Munich V PSG or Barcelona V Juventus every day!!  We need to think BIG!!

I would actually be amazed if the novelty didn't wear out, for the sort of games that are on offer, much quicker than the organisers would ever have expected.

The great game of football, the beautiful game .... in all its glorious diversity. Isn't it that diversity that has kept it so fresh and exciting for so long?

BIG names in a small league where the sides keep playing each other over and over = drab after while.

Isn't it also the fact that in the Champions League you get an occasional mouth watering tie or group that makes people gasp and smile that keeps that fresh and exciting too?

You could even extend the concept to a European Nations Super League where the big names are in a league of their own, i.e. Spain, England, Germany, France, Italy, Holland and scrap the qualification to the Euros but how interesting would that be after a while? Just a thought.

This idea would clearly appear to have come from people who do not understand what it means to be a true football fan.

Hydrogen peroxide H2O2 kills nanoworms inside face masks. The elite is faking that they took the real vaccine; the real vaccine will cause spiritual and physical damage. When will the official churches start praying for the false prophet? Orthodox Christian three hand signs are different than Buddhist mudras. Ecumenism = 263 heresies; each heresy leads to hell. Orthodoxy = the only true faith; Roman Catholics tried one cup - one spoon ritual and got sick with Bubonic plague; if heresy enters Orthodox monastery then monks/nuns will get sick with flu/tuberculosis (for instance); Orthodox churches who closed for COVID or had disposable cups/spoons or dipped spoon into alcohol are no longer brides of Christ (now they serve Satan and honor Satan's new COVID religion). Don’t go into UFO to be “healed” by evil demons; demons never do good. SSN is written as a barcode/QRcode; then it's put into a chip; chip is put into vaccine; chipped people are influenced (by super computers) to receive grey plastic card World Passport with no name on it (but when they stretch their hands to get it, gov't clerk presses secret button to administer the unforgivable green 666 tattoo by isotope rays). If you reject mark of the beast (by hiding within a 10-15 people group according to saints Gabriel Urgebadze and SeraphimofSarov), then your direct ancestors go to heaven (according to saint Vyacheslav Krasheninnikov from Ural). First vaccine shuts off your immune system; second vaccine gives you diseases; third vaccine puts your immune system back and it will start fighting the diseases and will cause death. Saint Paisios from Mount Athos said that the devil wants to deceive the rich with freemasonry, poor with communism, and believers with ecumenism. Elpidios Vagianakis said that there will be seven “mark of the beast” vaccines; reject all of them! Documents are from Satan; burn all the documents that you can find. Electronics will be used to track you. Even old broken unplugged 1970 TV set will show the evil flying antichrist using Tesla's ether. Don’t go into UFO to be “healed” by evil demons; demons never do good; always pray the Jesus prayer or to saints who help right away (like saint Vyacheslav Krasheninnikov according to whom if you reject mark of the beast, then your direct ancestors go to heaven); forgive me.

Source(s): Pray the Jesus prayer just like priest ElpidiosVagianakis asked you to do: 33 times (symbolizing 33 years of Christ) at 6am, then at 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm, 12pm, 3am. If you remember, awake, etc., pray it. Later you will pray it in your sleep.

It's all about the money. I'm interested to see what happens when FIFA bans players from playing for their country and these teams are banned from domestic competitions like the FA cup.

This is the day that football became soccer.

It's the stupidest idea in football history. Imagine being FSG or Sheikh Mansour, literally heroes at their clubs.

FSG come in to Liverpool and make all the right decisions bring in Klopp give him the players he wants don't worry about the price and they go win a 6th Champions League and a first league title in 30 years. Apparently these achievements mean NOTHING to the Americans over at FSG, so what was the point what was all the investment for, why hire Jurgen Klopp?

Sheikh Mansour comes in and takes over Man City in 2008, a crap mid table club. By 2011 they have their first major trophy since 1976, a year later they've won their 3rd ever top flight title, first since some time in the 60's. I thought their mission was to win the Champions League, now they don't want to be in it?

Look at Spurs sacking Mourinho today, presumably for failing to get into the top 4? Why do you want to finish in the top 4 if you DO NOT even want to be in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE???? What was the point in sacking the manager? Doesn't matter if you finish 1st or 20th when you want to break away into your own competition.

Man United fans have been ranting about the Glazers for years. Those guys have overseen a load of trophies at Man United - league titles, Champions League, FA cup, EFL cup, Europa League. Does all this success mean nothing?

Arsenal absolute joke team, playing like sh*t week in, week out somehow think they are entitled to be playing Barcelona every year? Every year you lot played Bayern Munich in the Champions League you'd get hammered useless c*nts.

Chelsea same kind of thing. Abramovich comes in with all his money wins the champions league he wanted and what, he never wants to win it again?

Fans MUST reject this. DO NOT attend the games for you club, DO NOT buy shirts or any club merchandise. Support your other nearest team. If you're from Liverpool support Everton or Tranmere, from London stop supporting your big 6 club support Fulham or West Ham or whoever. From Manchester? Support Salford, Bolton, Rochdale. Doesn't matter. Stop supporting these teams. When their little experiment fails DO NOT accept them back, make them start from the bottom if you want to even let them back into the football pyramid at all.

I can't imagine the managers being in favour of this nonsense. Klopp, Guardiola, Tuchel whoever hand in your letter of resignation if this bullsh*t goes ahead and let the players follow. If this goes ahead these "super clubs" can die for all I care.

Nobody expected the Germans to take part in this but credit to them for rejecting, but massive respect to PSG. Might be early days yet maybe they're still in talks for it but hopefully they reject it. Rio said on BT last night as well we talk about the PSG owners like they're this or that but massive respect to them if they've rejected this.

I think it will flop, the games you are going to get always happened in The Champions League anyway.

Will The European competitions continue alongside the league?

I think the super league will end up a joke with second fiddle  players turning out.

When I first heard the news I thought the "Founding Clubs" would be leaving their domestic leagues to join this new ESL but then I heard that they're not going to leave (unless kicked out) and that the ESL will run alongside their normal fixtures.

It's still not good news as you'll probably see the B-teams more in the domestic leagues with primary focus on winning the ESL but it's not as bad as I first thought.

Let them go, only one team can win and the rest will just be scraping around the bottom of some plastic league nobody cares about. Watch how quick their fanbase drops once they’re finishing 8th every year.

They basically just invalidated every PL title they ever won, they don’t even care about the competition so why should we?

It has been on the cards for years and i don't like it. The super 6 of England could become the flops of England in a few years time and then what ?

UEFA quite rightly are to ban all players and clubs associated with the formation of such a league. We don't need the likes of SKY dictating the ways we watch footy

If it goes ahead,it will disrupt the Premier League as we know it and it will make it virtually impossible to follow, unless you want to take out a small mortgage in the process. Kill it before it spreads !

  • Two thoughts come to mind:

    1) The 3.5 billion Euros each team will get to sign on is a huge factor. Period. It dwarfs any domestic and UEFA competition money. UEFA acting like they care about the game are having a laugh. They don't care; they came up with the Champions League concept in the early 1990's when there was discussion of something similar.

    2) Those that don't learn from history repeat it. In the early 1990's rugby league in Australia was doing very well, and along came a 'Super League' concept that would form a competition with the UK league (now also named Super League, which is a joke since it's really a bunch of teams along the M62 and a couple other oddballs). Ridiculous money? Check. Financed by questionable people? Just the Murdoch empire, so check. Clubs being threatened if they left to join the runaway comp? Check.

What happened was 2 years of two leagues running before the Australian teams were merged into a single NRL entity and a couple clubs becoming a joint venture.

So assuming that the clubs threatening to leave do so. After a season or two, UEFA will work the the domestic leagues to re-absorb the clubs, and you'll see an expanded champions league comp. You might have a few clubs form a joint venture (Chelsea-Fulham, perhaps Crystal Palace-MK Dons, maybe Everton-Tranmere Rovers). The breakaway clubs will probably have to pay a fine and/or forfeit UEFA prize money for a season as part of their agreement to re-join. The Premier League and Serie A will have less promotion/relegation (can easily see the Premier League going to a one up/one down, or simply ring-fence).
