  • What´s the collective for people born in Hamburg?

I live in a city in southern Brazil called Novo Hamburgo (Neu Hamburg). According to most sources, among all the german immigrants in the early 19th century, there was a settler from Hamburg who built a trading house in a hill, and the hill became known as Hamburger Berg (Hill of the man from Hamburg) as well as the settlement that developed around it.

However, I found another source that says Hamburger Berg translated as "hill of the people from Hamburg".

However, although there were german settlers in this area of Brazil from all around 19th century germanic areas, most were actually from the Rhein-Ruhr area. It´s doubtfull there would be enough settlers from Hamburg alone to call the hill as "hill from the people from Hamburg".

Thus my question... does the "Hamburger" in "Hamburger Berg" translates only as "something/someone" from Hamburg, or does it also translates as the collective from Hamburg (things/people)??

    Thanks.

  • How do black holes increase in mass?

We know that the event horizon of a black hole distorts space time so much that time basically doesnt exist on its surface. For an outsider observer, an object falling into a black hole would appear to fall forever. And indeed its forever falling, never quite touching the event horizon. As its almost touching the event horizon, 1 second for that object may mean the entire age of the universe around.

Therefore, if objects NEVER cross the event horizon due to time distortion, how is it possible that black holes increase in mass due to accretion??

Even if they swallow a hole star, that star will never cross the event horizon and add its mass to the singularity!

  • Fuji S4000 vs Canon SX130?

I love the 30x optical zoom feature of the Fuji, but the Canon certainly wins in the question of size and portability. What about image quality? Battery life? Other features?

Please, these are the only two available options, for a good price, in my area, so there is no reason to tell me of other good cameras.

  • Whats the longest beach in the world??

Tip: its NOT Cox Bazzar at India, which is only 120km long. That was the wrong answer given other times to this same question.
