  • Calculating the present value of an annuity?

When calculating the present value of an annuity am I correct in using the coupon rate as the annual return and the yield to maturity rate as the annual interest rate.

    E.G C = 7.25% (my coupon rate), N = 6 (the 6 years of my annuity) and R = 6.25% (my yield to maturity rate)...

Do I have this correct or am I using the yield to maturity rate incorrectly

PS....my answer is 104.88 ... I dont want the answer (thats pointless) just an idea if I am on the right track

  • Can my step-brother leave the US to be with his Family in the Caribbean whilst on Parole?

My step brother was released in May last year and given Parole until June 2012. He was living with my Father in Florida, in a house owned by my late Grandmother (who had only just passed away). Very soon after his release my Father also passed away.

He has no immediate family other than me and I live in Europe.

He has been unable (or unwilling it is hard to tell from 4000 miles away) to find work and as such has no means to support himself. I am supporting him and I suspect members of his late mother's family in the Caribbean are as well.

It is his intention to return to the Caribbean when his parole is up. Is there any way that can be advanced and I can get him released to his family's care in the Caribbean.

The house he is living in is the subject of a messy probate disagreement right now and I am afraid he is going to end up out on the street soon if I cant get him out of the US.

  • How do I file a Lis Pendens in Florida?

I own a 11% share of my late grandmothers home in Florida. My late father passed away last year and he owned 33% of the property with the remaining 66% split evenly between his two brothers, one of whom also passed away.

The only remaining uncle has now, unknown to me, agreed to sell the property (as he is the executor of my Grandmothers estate).

I have heard nothing of this until my half-brother who lives at the property currently was given an eviction notice.

I do not know my uncles intentions or if he plans to distribute the proceeds of the sale equally amoung the remaining heirs.....however he does not answer emails or return calls.

I wish to file a Lis Pendens in order to delay the sale until such time as I can sort out what is really going on in Florida (as I live in Europe).

If anyone knows how to go about that in Sarasota I'd be very grateful for the info.

  • I am right to question being in my relationship?

I have been in a relationship for nearly three years with someone Ive known for nearly fifteen years. We are both in our early forties and really get along well, most of the time.

When Mary (not her real name) moved in with me she had to move internationally and quit her job. In return I pay all the household bills and give her 10% of my take home pay. When we go out I pay for everything. I have no issues with this arrangement.

    However....

We have been trying to have children since early on in the relationship. Now we are starting the first IVF treatment. I have already paid about 15,000 Euros on treatments and drugs and am facing another 5,000 for this first attempt, with two or three more attempts a real possibility.

This cost will wipe out my savings. My net worth is less than 15K EUR right now and dropping fast, my girlfriend owns investment property and is worth close to 400,000 EUR.

However, when I suggest that she pays for half of the medical costs she goes ballistic, accuses me of hampering her ability to get pregnant (even though she continues to smoke) and then spitefully offers to transfer money into my back account becuase "thats all thats important"....

Before she moved in with me I lived a very irresponsible life and lived month to month, she inspired me to change and save money to buy a property and I managed to save the money I currently have between meeting her and her moving in with me, since then Ive saved nothing.

She is a really great person but I think she just doesnt give a damn about my future and is only focussed on kids and keeping her investments secure.....

I am considering leaving her if IVF fails and she doesnt agree, cordially, to share the costs of further treatments....

Am I being an ****** here, she is my best friend, and I'd love to have kids with her but I cant keep paying out thousands of dollars on the off-chance she gets pregnant without her helping.

  • I am looking for a pre-paid visa card issuer that will accept Israeli residents.?

I am looking for a pre-paid credit card issuer that will take Israeli based customers. Most cards are focussed on the US, Canada or the EU. Does anyone know of a company that can assist. Ideally they would be based outside of Israel.

  • I need a good Visual Basic resource?

I am using Visual Studio .NET 2003

I need to bring myself up to speed on VB in a 3-10 week period. I have been coding at intervals for 20 years and have coded in COBOL and C but more recently in PHP but havent written any code in 3 years (ended up on the business side).

I have an application I wish to write to hopefully kick off a small software company of my own and wish to do this in VB.

Can anyone recommend a good resource to help me come up to speed on VB in the shortest possible time. I'm not the worlds best at writing code but I'm not bad and am familiar (I think) with most of the main concepts used in a SDLC today.

I have a decent budget to play with for training resources.

    Thanks

  • Where does negotiation end and blackmail begin.?

Let me ask a hypothetical question :)

Lets say I work for Company A. We are contractually obliged to sell our products to Company B at the lowest price we offer any of our customers. So if we offer any other customer a lower price we are obligated to offer the same price to CompanyB.

Now lets assume that this isnt happening and we are in fact offering our products to a third party at a lower price than we offer to Company B and are thus in breech of contract.

My question is this. If I was to be fired from Company A could I use this knowledge to negotiate a severance package or would that constitute blackmail (on the understanding that if I did not accept the terms of the severance I would inform Company B of the breech of contract).

Hypothetically I would be in possesion of the contractual information as part of my routine duties with Company A.

Where does negotiation end and blackmail begin?

  • What to do and say if you move to a major competitor?

I may interview soon for a competitor to my current employer. I have no particular desire to change companies but they put the prospect of an offer on the table so I am going to talk to them anyway.

In my present position I am privy to sensitive contractual agreements between us and our clients, particularly regarding billing and service level agreements.

I would not, even if employed by the new company, divulge any of that information. Obviously there are clauses in my current contract that cover such issues, even if there weren't I still wouldn't do it.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, I hope my prospective employer will understand my position, however we are in a very competitive industry and gaining knowledge of a major competitor's client's contracts could be of value to them.

Has anyone crossed the floor to work with a competitor and if so did they encounter this issue?

  • Do you have any experiences of putting your pet in quarantine?

I'm moving to Malta in 2-3 months. I have four adult cats that will be traveling with me. They will need to spend around four months in quarantine.

Does anyone have experience of putting their pets into quarantine anywhere, I'm worried that the experience will stay with them and affect my relationship with them over time.

  • Do you know the name of this childrens film...?

Im trying to remember the name of this mostly animated kids film. It has to be 25 years old and I believe it was european.

A gift wrapped box arrives for a young boy which when unwrapped turned into a gateway into an animated world which he drove through in a red car (how he knew how to drive is beyond me).

It had the usual good and evil plotline that most childrens movies have (I think).

Well thats not much to do on but for some reason this popped back into my mind and its such a vague memory Im trying to see if I can identify the movie.
