  • The Data Protection Act?

When I ring a UK Call Centre, be it Bank or otherwise, I am always greeted with the persons First Name, but when I ask for their surname they say "I'm not allowed to give this due to the Data Protection Act.

Thus if the person says their name is 'John' there may well be 30 others with the same name so I am unable to refer back to the person later for any reason.

I think they are all under a mishaprehension and should give their surname if requested.

Am I right? What is the correct answer, please.

  • Mozilla Thunderbird - Emails?

When I receive Emails on Thunderbird I find that if I want to print them out instead of having just the normal email text I have for the first page a lot of gobble-de-goo which seems like the routing details of the systems the email has passed through to reach me. The same rubbish occurs if I want to reply or forward the contents of the email proper.

My Operating System if Linux. It has never done this before so could someone please tell me exactly what I have to do to reset something?

  • Mens Hankercherchiefs?

I am having trouble buying the good old English Handkerchiefs. All that seem available are "Made in China" one's. These are very thin, you can see through them and they don't absorb. I am sure that in the North of England people still can buy the good old traditional hanky which were about in the 1970/80's. I don't want fancy Saville Row type.

So, please mature Englishman, where can I buy them? Ask around your family members and let me know, PLEASE.

  • American Health Service?

Why are the Americans jumping up and down as though at a Pow Wow trying to resist having a UK style National Health Service?

They all drink water, use electricity and gas and the young folk all go to school.

How can they enjoy the benefits of something they've never had?

What they should realize is that a country is a big team - all pulling together and a national service benefits ALL and not just the financially rich. So the question is 'why do Americans stamp on their own feet in this big issue

  • Royal Mail - Christmas Stamp Issue 2008?

Over the last month Anne Widdecombe MP for Maidstone has written in the Daily Express about the fact that the Madonna and Child religeous theme stamps are unobtainable. Since writing out my Christmas cards I have tried at three Post Offices in Leighton Buzzard, Beds. and each place say they do not have any. I have also noticed that ALL the Christmas cards being delivered to me contain the Pantomine stamps only.

One accepts that some people have no religeous beliefs but it must also be accepted that many others do and that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ.

Does anyone (particularly if they work for the Post Office/Royal Mail) know why this is ?? Some people think it's to do with political correctness and the DESIRE not to offend Muslims.

So could I have some knowledgeable answers please as I am just left pondering.

    Thank you very much

  • Manual/Classic Camera Batteries ???

I have a YASHICA 124G Camera which takes square pictures 6cm x 6cm. It is similar to a Rolleiflex.

The camera uses a 1.3 V mercury battery to power its exposure meter. The instructions say use either Mallory PX-13B, Eveready EPX-13 or equivalent.

These batteries are small button ones. My problem is obtaining a proper battery but who sells them in the UK. Maybe they are obsolete ? so what do I do.?

Please no jokes about going digital, it doesn't help me.

  • Outlook Express - Blocking Spam?

On the left top of OE it shows File,Edit,Tools,Message,Help.

In the drop down menu on Message there is an item "Block Sender". I inadvertently clicked on this when I had a reply showing from my ISP Support. Now everything from my Support line gets diverted to Anti Spam on my Norton Internet Security.

I am unable to reverse my stupid mistake. Can anyone out there please tell me how I can reverse this so that any Email from my Support goes straight into the INBOX as before????
