I want to setup a web server for a small business, the dedicated servers are too expensive if we look at the long term expensive and if i get all the hardware and set it up in house, the initial cost is a lot but is cheaper in terms of long term.

could someone please suggest me if it is a good idea to setup the server in-house along with all softwares, firewalls, network connectivity and etc. or get a dedicated server.

Also could someone let me know about the type of network such as broadband i would need if the initial website traffic is say 100 - 200 users per day.

Hi linux users, i am having a bit of a problem with my SuSE linux 9.2.

I have a wireless card on my laptop and the ipw-firmware installed on linux. Wireless used to work perfectly without any problem. It used to detect the wireless networks and connect to the open network at university and i was able to use the internet. Now for some reason, i still do get the IP address by DHCP but internet doesn't work and i cannot ping even the broadcast address. I tried local area network with wired cat5 cable connecting 2 laptops, set the IP manually or automatically by DHCP, i am able to ping but i can't access the web. I have apache server on linux and connected with windows laptop. I can ping from windows to linux but can't access the apache using 192.168.0.1/htdocs/myproject

Please guide me where i am going wrong.

Does anyone know if the windows process scheduling is based on time slicing? Is it Pre-emtive or non pre-emtive?

If one process eats up 100% CPU and another process wants to run, will the second process get any CPU cycles or only the first process will get the whole CPU and perhaps windows would crash. This questions actually applies to windows web server.

I already know about the process scheduling of linux and just want to compare it with windows. Please don't just answer by saying "Windows is worst, don't use it as a web server" I need a proper answer to justify my question.

I have been trying to convert from multiple input streams of mpeg files into one flv file.

It only converts the last input file to flv and all others are ignored.

This is a sample commandline instruction:

>ffmpeg -i movie1.mpg -i movie2.mpg -i movie3.mpg bigmovie.flv

I am trying to create a 2D array of 3x3 using a single dimensional array starting from 1-9. 3 rows and 3 cols but the array is single dimensional. [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9] but i am trying to represent it as :

[1,1 (1)] [1,2 (2)] [1,3 (3)]

[2,1 (4)] [2,2 (5)] [2,3 (6)]

[3,1 (7)] [3,2 (8)] [3,3 (9)]

The user only enters the rows and cols and the grid is fixed 3x3.

How can i calculate for example:

r2, c2 = 5?

if i do this r*c then i get the correct answer for 1*1, 1*2, 1*3, 2*3, 3*3 but not for others.

Hi everyone, there was a game on the site, i don't even remember the site or the name of the game now. Its where you are playing with either friends who you know or someone else on the web and you are given a word and you have to draw what the word actually means. This game is made in shockwave animation.

If we have a div tag called "content" as ID and an ajax link within this div tag clicking on which will update itself. On some browsers, clicking on this link doesn't do anything at all, specially with Internet Explorer. It is a browser problem or is it something I can do in the code to fix it?

Last night, my computer started to behave very strangly. It was continuously trying to read the hard drive for almost 10mins. I had to force turn it off. When I restarted the computer, it came to the windows xp login screen and frozen. Then i restarted again, after a compaq logo, the screen goes blank and it is trying to read the hard drive.

I have dual booting on my pc. Windows xp and linux on the same hard drive which i partitioned in this way: 10GB to linux and 90GB to Windows. Linux is working properly. When I boot in linux and try to access c:\, the moment i go to the c:\windows\system32 folder, it freezes and after some time gives an error saying cannot access hard drive. It shows a few files in system32 folder but not all.

Please help.
