    What do Trump's supporters think about him throwing the protesters under the bus?

    Finally Trump has given a concession speech, or the nearest we will ever get to one.

    He started the address with;

    "I would like to begin by addressing the heinous attack on the United States Capitol. Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem. I immediately deployed the National Guard and federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders. America is and must always be a nation of law and order. The demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country. And to those who broke the law, you will pay."

  • Former US presidents are entitled to  lifetime Secret Service protection, do you think Donald trump will accept his?

    The Presidents Protection Act of 2012 gives lifetime Secret Service protection, for ex presidents their spouses, and children under 16.   I wonder if you think Trump will accept his.

    Trump is still claiming Obama tapped his phones, although his own Attorney General and close ally Bill Barr announced they found no evidence of this.

    He is now attacking the new administration and denouncing all those government officials, many of them who are Republican and government run departments as complicit in the "fraudulent election".

    Surely if he really believes that all these people and government organisation are corrupt and are conspiring against him, he would not want to be closely surrounded by people for the rest of his life who work for such a corrupt government.

    Surely he will put his money where his mouth is, decline government protection and pay for his own security needs?

    He wouldn't be the first president to do so, Nixon relinquished his Secret Service protection in 1985, around a decade after he resigned, the only president so far to do so

  • Why are anonymous right wingers now posing as left wingers in Answers.?

    I have discovered this morning that at least one anonymous right winger is posing as a left winger and claiming he thinks "Trump getting Covid 19 is hilarious"

    I know this is a right winger as he has previously blocked me and only those on the far right have ever done that.

  • Should anonymous contributors in the politics section be allowed to make personal attacks on other contributors, who they have blocked?  ?

    I just came across an attack on me from another user;

    They posted;

    "The anti-white SJW user Jas B says she wants Britain and Europe to be culturally enriched through population replacement?

    and mass immigration from African, Asian and Islamic nations to Europe.

    If she has fallen in love with Africans, Muslims, Asians, she can always visit those nations to experience their cultures, no?"

    I was in fact flattered to think I had annoyed a right winger so much that they had singled me out to attack.  So I wrote a response;

    "No I didn't. What I have said is that Britain and Europe have been culturally and economically enriched by immigration throughout it's history.

    Having compassion for human beings fleeing wars, persecution, famine and wanting to find a better life for themselves and their children does not make me support mass immigration. It's called having empathy and compassion for those less fortunate than I am.

    The suggestion that this makes me anti white, when my children, grandchildren and the vast majority of the people in my life who I love and care about are white is stupid.

    However as an old white woman I am greatly proud to be called a Social Justice Warrior, something I have attempted to be all my life.

    So thanks."

    Only to find that this anonymous contributor has blocked me from responding to his questions.

    So should those who cowardly hide behind anonymity be allowed to personally attack people who they block?

  • So what do Americans think about President Trump calling the American Secret Service the "SS"?

    This was a Tweet the President posted a couple of days ago,.

    @realDonaldTrump

     Our great National Guard Troops who took care of the area around the White House could hardly believe how easy it was. “A walk in the park”, one said. The protesters, agitators, anarchists (ANTIFA), and others, were handled VERY easily by the Guard, D.C. Police, & S.S. GREAT JOB!

    I am retired and would be willing to bet that no president in my life time has referred to the Secret Service in this way, even with a full stop between the letters, for obvious reasons.

    Now of course feel free to tell me what you think of the part where the president boasts how easy it was for the police to beat up unarmed peaceful protestors and them praise them for doing so.

    But it is your opinion on the use of SS which I find most interesting, especially if you are a Republican.

  • Americans how do feel that UNICEF has reported that the U.S. has a higher child poverty rate than every indust?

    As the richest country in the world does it disturb you that one in five of your children is growing up in poverty, for blacks and Hispanics, it's one out of every three.

    Only Romania ranks higher, with 25.5% of its children living in poverty, compared with 23.1% in the U.S

    The US National Centre for Children in Poverty state that most of these children have parents who work, but low wages and unstable employment leave their families struggling to make ends meet. So dismissing the parents of these children as lazy or unemployed simply will not do.

    We all know that those children who grow up in poverty are more likely to be marginalised in society, taking to crime, drug use and causing social problems. Surely the long term costs of having almost a quarter of your children excluded from what the majority call the necessities of life is going to be far higher than taking measures to give every child the basics and the opportunities which the rest have.

    Surely our children are our future and there can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.

  • How can any American woman vote for Romney?

    The Republican party have many who are stating that they want to take away a woman's right to have an abortion, even in the cases of rape, incest and when their own life is in danger.

    If you doubt what I say please watch the report below by Rachel Maddow, which uses Republican's own words to show this.

    As a woman how can you give up the right to control not just your own fertility but the right if a man rapes you to chose not to have the child, even if this is your father or a close family member.

    How can you accept that if you become pregnant from the time of conception that the health and wellbeing of your unborn child takes away your basic human right to chose to live over the rights of your unborn child.

    I can understand and respect any woman's choice not to have an abortion but that is a long way from telling a 12 or 13 year old child that she will have to carry and give birth to a child which is the result of a father or uncle raping her.

    It will return women to being second class citizens, who's prime function in life is to be baby factories forced to give birth regardless of how they became pregnant or even if it will kill them to do so.

    Women have spent hundreds of years in the US fighting to get equality, next to being given the vote the right to control their own fertility is the single biggest event to enable this equality to exist. Why would you vote for a party where many want to take this right away??

  • Americans, why do you think you have the largest prison population in the world?

    The United States is top of the list in the percentage of it's population in prison, 715 per 100,000 people, far ahead of other countries with large prison populations like China, Russia and Iran.

    When you compare them with countries which could be called similiar such as New Zealand 160 per 100,000, Spain 144 per 100,000, Canada and Australia; 116 per 100,000, Austria and Italy 100 per 100,000 and Germany 96 per 100,000 these huge differences in these figures would suggest that there must be serious problems in the US.

    I am curious to know what Americans believe are the reasons that so many of their citizens are in jail whether they feel this is a good thing and what they believe would be the best ways to reduce these numbers.

    As the only western country which still has the death penalty, which many Americans support as a deterent, I wonder if you believe it works as such. Research suggests that the easy availability of guns is directly related to the murder rate, do you agree?

    While this question is specifically directed at Americans all opinions are welcome but do say if you are not an American.

  • How can Evagelicals believe in the absolute truth of the Bible?

    When the Bible, particularly the old testament tell of God ordering so many evil crimes how can they believe in its absolute truth.

    God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said “Thou shall not kill”. For example, God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). He orders another attack and the killing of “all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses” (Joshua 6). In Judges 21, He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife! Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody! In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

    The God of the Bible also allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 and Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9).

    This type of criminal behavior should shock any moral person. Murder, rape, pillage, plunder, slavery, and child abuse can not be justified by saying that god says it’s OK.

    I know that most Christians believe that God is a good and loving god and realise that the Bible cannot be taken as 100% God's rules and laws.

    So how can the Evangelical church keep believing that it is the ultimate and unquestioning word of God. I would be interested to hear how they can support this belief which they are constantly quoting to oppose abortion, homosexuality and the truth of evolution etc.

  • Should we teach our children how to avoid abusive relationships?

    Those of us who try to be good parents advise our children on drugs, alcohol and sex education amongst other things before they go out into the world as we want to protect them.

    Should we also give them advice on how to recognize boy/girlfriends who are potential abusers.

    If you look at websites which give the warning signs of how to recognize an abuser, those who have been abused recognize some if not all of these warning signs but this is of little use in hindsight. http://www.hiddenhurt.co.uk/Abuser/signs.htm

    Often abusers will excuse these early warning signs "because they love you so much" or express remorse and promise not to to it again and when are children are young, inexperienced and in love they do not see the signs for what they are.

    So should we make sure that our children know what to look out for before they start dating to try and stop them getting into such relationships.

  • The Gift of Fear; Do women put themselves in danger by ignoring their instincts?

    The author Gavin de Becker suggests that women often end up in danger of being assaulted, raped or murdered because they ignore their initial instincts. That when we feel that something or someone is a danger to us we ignore these feelings as we don't want to appear rude (a *****), that we are bought up to be polite.

    He suggests that most women who are attacked, raped etc. have a premonition of danger or instinct against a man before it happens. He suggest that we feel something is wrong but ignore feelings thereby putting ourselves in danger.

    One example he gave was if we are alone waiting for a lift and the door opens to reveal a single man, even if we feel something is wrong and take an instant dislike or fear of that person, rather than appear rude we would get into the lift.

    He suggests we are the only animal who ignore the danger instinct and talk ourselves out of running away.

    I listened to several women who had been through a violent or sexual attack who supported this theory, I wonder if this is just thinking in hindsight or whether we should all pay more attention to our feelings and instincts.

    I am interested to know what other women think.
