  • Good, Happy Romance Novels?

    Hey everyone,

My girlfriend is 20 and likes reading romance novels, but lately she's been reading some really depressing ones so I'd like to get her one that is happy for a nice change of pace. Since this is definitely not my area of expertise, it would be awesome if you guys could name off a few for me to check out!

    Thanks for the help =)

  • Windows Chkdsk stuck on Phase 4?

    Hey everyone,

I've been having some freezing errors lately with my computer, so I ran the Windows Error Check to see if I could resolve any problems.

I have 3 partitions to my hard drive, one for Windows programs, one for Games, and one for everything else. My Windows drive worked fine, but when I ran ChkDsk for my Game partition, it got up to Phase 4, a little more than half way, and has been stuck like that for well over an hour and a half. Any ideas on what I should do?

    Thanks

  • Is taking two 900mg fish oil pills daily bad?

    Hey everyone,

I just got new fish oil pills that are 900mg/pill. I've been taking one daily with dinner, but would taking two daily, one with breakfast and one with dinner, be a bad idea?

  • Ipod Touch 2nd generation app. question?

    Hey everyone,

I recently got an Itouch with my Macbook Pro, and just started playing around with it now. I went to the app store to get some apps (facebook, shazam, etc.) but it said that they weren't compatible and needed the Iphone 3.0 update. Does this mean that I can't download these apps at all, or is there somehow that I can get this update and be able to use them?

    Thanks

  • Scuba Diving off the coast of New England (MA)?

    Hey everyone,

I'm getting my Scuba Cerification soon, and I live in Massachusetts, so I will be doing my open water dives and most of my diving in New England. I was just wondering what there is to see off the coast of NE, my dad said "all you're going to see is a lobster and murky green water" but I figure I'd ask you guys, assuming someone must dive here at least sometimes.

So, are there any striking features in the water here?

  • Is the medical field (MD, DO) REALLY getting as bad as I hear?

    Hey everyone,

I've been browsing around a few websites and forums lately that deal with the medical field and being "pre-med." I myself am entering college as "pre-med" in January, with the goal of getting into medical school my main priority.

However, lately all I've been hearing is how bad the medical field is getting: drastic pay cuts, overworked, under-appreciated, tons of paperwork, and many doctors leaving practice to pursue other careers.

Nearly everyone I see says to stay away from being a doctor, but is it really THAT bad? I mean I love science, love anatomy, and I love to help people. However, I'm not completely altruistic, the heft paycheck (that I've heard about for so long) is also very appealing, but it seems that even that is being stripped away (to the tune of 90-100k per year...the salary of an average plumber).

So bottom line, is all this really true? Is it really getting that bad or is just dramatized around premed boards in order to scare others away to lessen competition? If it is taking that turn, is there a chance for recovery down the road?

Thanks for any help, sorry for the long post

  • Reputable website to buy Scuba gear from?

    Hey everyone,

I'm in the midst of getting my Scuba certification now, and all I hear is that you should try to invest in your own gear as soon as possible. However, there are many sites that I've come across that GREATLY vary in price (many "discount" places, etc), for example one website will have dive computers prices at $700 starting, where another will have them for under $200. I'm assuming quality the main factor there, but I mean they all do the same job right?

If you guys could point out a couple good sites for me to start browsing and pricing gear I'd appreciate it!

    Thanks

  • How do you become an astronomer?

    Hey everyone,

What do you have to major in in college in order to become an astronomer? Is it one of those things where it HAS to be one certain major, or does it work with many? What are the steps to take?

  • What can you do with a minor in something?

    Hey everyone,

What exactly does minoring in something do to benefit you? Can you get a career in the field of your minor if the field of your major doesn't work out? For example if someone majored in science and minored in music, but didn't like what the science field offered after graduation, could they pursue a field in music from their minor?

  • Good telescope in the $200-$500 price range?

    Hey everyone,

I'd like to buy a telescope, and it'll be my first one (well, technically my 2nd, but I had the first one when I was younger and we could never get it working) and I'm currently looking at a Celestron NexStar 130SLT. It seems good from the reviews but there are some people saying that it's complete trash, do any of you guys know any scopes better than this one in a similar price range?

Also, what should I buy with this (if I buy this) in terms of filters and things?

    thanks for any help

  • Any high paying careers in music? (besides the obvious)?

    Hey everyone,

I'm entering college as a science major right now, but I'm considering switching to a music major. My school offers Music Industry, Music Technology, and Music History and Analysis. Are there any high paying careers (100k+) in these areas? I've been playing guitar my entire life and love music, so I think I'd be happy even in a non-performing major.

    Thanks for any help

  • Macbook or Macbook Pro for college?

    Hey everyone,

I'm going to college this year, and I'm going to need a Macbook. I've decided against a PC laptop just because it's less of a hassel, and everyone is telling me it's the better choice.

My school has a deal with Apple where I can get discounts due to being a student, so I save some money off the top with each. What I'll be doing with the computer is probably:

    Class work/notes/etc

Maybe some games (basically just like Diablo III when it comes out, nothing really hardcore)

Maybe screw around with Garageband with my guitar a little

    Presentations and what not

I'm getting scholarship money from private organizations and stuff, so I'll have a decent amount of money for this Laptop. The scholarships would probably cover the cost of the Macbook, where I'd have to dish out a couple hundred more to get a Pro, so is the Pro that much better, or should I just go regular Macbook?

    Thanks

  • Any good medical websites/books for learning/someone interested in medicine?

    Hey everyone,

I am very interested in medicine and am entering college pre-med this year. I was just wondering if there are any good websites or things out there that deal with medicine or things like that. I love watching medical shows and things (not like House, although it is a great show. I mean like Untold Stories of the E.R. and stuff, the real stuff) so are there any websites like that surrounding medicine so I can just entertain myself?

    Thanks for any help!

  • Need a science fair project fast (my original fell through)?

    Hey everyone,

I have a huge problem on my hands. I originally had a science fair project ready and did the research and everything, but then UPS screwed everything up and my plant I was having shipped died and pretty much anything that could go wrong did.

Now, I have one week to do a new science fair project, but I can't think of anything. Do any of you guys know of any project that I can do within a week? Preferably something that is High school (senior) level, but can be done quickly?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

  • Friend is very intoxicated, urgent please help?

    Hey everyone,

My friend had way to much to drink tonight. He started throwing up at about 10 or 10:30, and hasn't stopped.

He is completely responsive and talking but is starting to doze from exhaustion, and cannot keep anything down including water. His pulse is alright, but I don't know what to do. Do you think an ambulence is needed? We're trying to keep him hydrated but he wont stop throwing up after drinking water and he is really shaky.

    Please help asap, thank you

  • What is the order of the Coheed and Cambria story?

    Hey everyone,

I want to get into the Coheed and Cambria story, but I don't know what albums are involved in it or what order they go in. Can someone help me out? And are they all worth listening too? Because it's all pretty good from what I've heard so far.

  • Teaching my friend the bass - Should he finger pick or use a pick?

    Hey everyone,

I am a guitarist, but for a freak spur of the moment band my friend had to take up bass which he has never played before (or any guitar for that matter). I have no problem teaching him how to play the bass, but since I am a guitarist I don't know whether to teach him to play with a pick or use finger picking.

I don't know how to finger pick a bass correctly, but I could watch a tutorial video if that is the best thing to teach him.

He thinks that finger picking is the better way to play bass, is this true? Would it be better if he learned to finger pick at first, or use a pick instead?

    Thanks

  • Can you get huge muscle size without steroids?

    Hey everyone,

Now, first and foremost, I am in no way shape or form considering steroids. This question is just something I was wondering.

When I look at muscle magazines and everything, these guys are absolutely jacked, with ridiculous muscle size. I would assume they would be on steroids, because of things like, oh well, this: http://www.learn-bodybuilding.com/images/bb/kev3.j...

Is it even remotely possible to get that big without the use of steroids? I've been working out for sports on and off for a while, and now I'm going to start bodybuilding consistently. I just wanted to know if I could ever expect to get huge (not necessarily huge like that guy) without the use of steroids and things.

    Thanks for any help

  • How tall do you have to be to enter bodybuilding competitions?

    Hey everyone,

I've been bodybuilding on and off for a few years now, and now I want to start taking it more serious. I was just going to do it for myself, but I figured that I might as well think about competing in competitions just for fun. However, I'm only around 5'8"-5'9", so would that negatively effect my chances of placing high in any competition? Or are there certain height brackets that you can enter? I don't really know how competitions go, if you guys could help me I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks
