  • Gay marriage in churches?

Now first things first i have no issue with homosexuals whatsoever, i believe you should be allowed to be with/ sleep with whoever you want provided its consensual and you aren't a dirty pedophile or something like that.

What confuses me however is that some homosexuals want to get married in churches. Its rare but it does happen.

Now personally i'm not religious, but i can still see the issue here. Why on earth would you want to get married in a place that historically condemns you and your partners relationship. To me that's like going into a hotel, spitting in the receptionists face and then asking for a room for the night.

So i guess my questions are 'Why would a gay want to get married in a church' ,'do you think gays should be allowed to married in churches and if so why?' and 'should churches be allowed to turn away gay couples wanting to get married purely due to their sexuality?'

I look forward to a no doubt calm and well reasoned discussion in the answers.

  • Why are most creationist Christians found in the U.S?

Over in Europe and the U.K i have travelled a lot and been to many different church services in different Euro countries. Most Christians seem to accept Evolution and science can be compatible with religion and understand that some of the Bible is out date and written for the context of a different point in History.

I have yet to meet any Creationists like that found in some parts of the U.S and when mentioned to Euro Christians they are more or less laughed at.

So why does the U.S seem to have the majority of these creationists and why are they so unwilling to change with the times as the rest of their religion has?

  • Do Christians/religious people worry anyone else?

I've time and time again come across religious people on this site who will say something negative about atheists along the lines of 'Atheists have no God so have nothing to make them fear in death so are immoral and likely to commit crimes' etc..

Of course this is utter rubbish, but what worries me is that these some religious people (not all) are suggesting the only thing stopping them from going on a crime spree is fear of their Gods wrath?

Does this not make anyone else a tad uncomfortable?

  • Deport Piers Morgan... really?

    Really America....

I know it's only a tiny percentage of you.... But Really?

You constantly talk about being land of the free. Your first amendment guarantees the right to free speech, then as soon as someone says something you don't agree with you scream at the government to silence them?

Do you not see the contradiction?

  • To what extent do Americans have the right to bear arms?

The 2nd amendment seems to be every Americans fall back argument when anyone even mentions the cursed words 'gun control' but to what extent are you allowed to exercise this?

Would you be comfortable if your neighbour was allowed a tank or a nuke in their personal possession?

Does anyone else think the 2nd amendment needs to be updated to be more precise and clear?

  • Found a lump. What should i do?

On Sunday i found a small lump at the bottom of my penis where it connects to my balls.

The lumps quite small and i've had other lumps appear on my body under my nipples before but they just went away after a few weeks.

    I'm 18

Also it appeared a couple of days after i last had sex, if thats of any relevance.

Obviously i'm just a tad nervous to as to whether its the Big C or not.

So what should i really do?

  • The second amendment?

I'm a little confused about the second amendment.

'A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'

To me that seems to suggest that as a well regulated militia citizens should be allowed weapons.

So why does literally every single American seem to have one? That does not seem well regulated in any sense. And 99% of Americans i bet are in no form of militia whatsoever?

  • Would you feel safer if someone broke into your house and you and them both have guns or neither of you do?

Living in Scotland i always feel safe in the knowledge that should someone break into my house the chances of them having a gun are near zero.

However you Americans all have guns, which means a burglar likely has a gun as do you. So its just a matter of who's quicker with the gun, which chances are if you are asleep they are not going to want to risk you waking up and reaching for your gun.

So who do you think sleeps more soundly at night?

  • University's in the U.S?

I'm from Edinburgh, Scotland currently studying in Aberdeen.

Next year i have the options to Study abroad in Europe or the U.S. I know plenty about all the European cities and university's but haven't ever been to the U.S and no very little about what its like to live there.

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about these cities and University's that I can choose from in the U.S that would give me a better understanding of what they are like etc

Boston University- Massachusetts (would have to pay fees if i went there, so would have to be pretty spectacular)

    Oklahoma state University- Stillwater

    University of Houston- Houston

    University of North Texas- Denton

    University of Tulsa- Tulsa

I'm studying management/business and pretty into my sport such as Athletics, rugby although i guess i may have to play some American football in the states etc

Anyway any useful information or a bit about what their is to do in the cities would be much appreciated.

    thanks.

  • I don't understand how Americans continue to support having guns?

After the recent school massacre to me it would seem sane to think that easy access to guns may not be a good thing for a country.

But Americans seems to be as ever protective over their weapons?

I hear arguments such as people kill with knives and their bare hands or with a car, so what difference does the gun make? Well when was the last time someone went on a killing spree with a knife and managed to kill 27 (i think that's the current death figure although i many be wrong) people. Also where im from (Scotland) the last person who tried to use his car to bomb and airport got such a savage beating from members of the public that no innocents were severely hurt, something which may not have happened if he'd had access to firearms.

Self defence seems to be another reason Americans insist own own guns, but the main reason for that is because all the criminals have guns. I sleep sound in my home at night with no fire arm on my bed side table because i know the chances of someone breaking in are low and with a gun near zero.

Can someone please just explain to me why having guns is a good idea? In Europe i can only think of 2 gun massacres such as this in my life time, while the U.S seems to have one every couple of years. Also if any of you say something along the lines of so we can fight the government if they try to oppress us, you live in the first world, not North Korea. Re-evaluate your life.

  • Christians, Muslims and other religious types. Would you vote for an openly atheist person for President?

If the persons social and economic policies were most suited to you, your family and friends needs and wants (religion wants aside) would you vote for them? Or would your votes still be guided by religious motives?

  • Why are Americans so touchy about anyone who suggests they should give up their right to have guns?

I understand that you may feel you need to protect your family etc and the conspiracy theorists like to have them in case the governments planning on raping them or something.

But seriously if you look your violent crime and murder figures (especially with guns) they are far higher than other countries (U.K for example) which do not allow Guns.

Do you have enough trust in the police etc to look after you?

Are you not concerned about the amount of accidents and deaths they cause?

The only real issue i could see with banning guns would be getting rid of the ones already in circulation?

Would making guns illegal not help avoid the kind of nutters who go into schools armed and shoot a bunch of kids? Organised criminals may still be able to get hold of a gun if you banned them but surely the lone psycho may be prevented from committing murder?

Please discuss, i would like to hear some varying viewpoints.

  • What's your thoughts on allowing performance enhancing drugs in the Olympics?

Does anyone think athletes should be allowed to take whatever they want? Then we would no doubt see some incredible sport? I would love to see just how fast bolt could run if he was allowed to take performance enhancers (I have a great yet ridiculous image in my head of him breaking the sound barrier)

Anyway Pro's and Cons discuss please.

  • Really bad Headaches?

I'm 18 and have been getting headaches for the last week or so.

They are always just before i go to sleep and just after i wake up. Pain killers seem to do little for them and they are agony far more sore than any headaches i've had previously.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what has brought them on?

I did just come back from 10 days of partying in Greece, but i somewhat doubt a hangover could last this long.

Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.
