  • Smart TV or Connect PC to TV?

I'm currently considering my options for a new TV and am intrigued by the concept of a Smart TV. However I'm concerned I'm perhaps getting carried away and there might actually be a cheaper or simpler way of getting everything I would like. Especially as I will need some way of recording live tv and from my understanding this isn't possible with a smart TV and so I would still need something like a freeview+ box. Here's a list of all the features I need or would like to have with my new TV:

    Freeview channels

    Record/pause/rewind live TV

Catch up services such as 4od and iplayer (preferably with full programme choices - I currently have a bt vision box but the itv player and 4od don't provide all the programmes so still often need to watch these through a computer)

    Streaming netflix/lovefilm or similar

    Youtube

    Skype

Also, not essential but, I do have a samsung android phone and so I'd be interested in how I might be able to use this in combination with my TV - especially to stream my music from my phone through my TV.

If anyone could offer me some advice on what my options are and what they would recommend I'd be very grateful. Also, I know technology is moving fast and so any advice on whether these options are likely to change in the next year if I were to wait a year.

    Thanks

  • Good holiday chick lit books?

Just found out I'm going to be working abroad for the summer and although I'm going to be working most of the time I'd like to have some good books to read on my time off by the pool!

I like funny books along the lines of the Shopaholic series; also like books about people who are on holiday in the med! Basically anything funny and light-hearted that's not too taxing!

    Thanks for any suggestions :)

  • How much is the Stagecoach bus from Glasgow city to the Fort shopping centre?

I've never used stagecoach before so don't know they're pricing and their website doesn't seem to have single/return/day fares on it - anyone know the route and know how much it is, think it's the X19

    Thanks

  • How much do monthly household bills cost in Glasgow?

I'm a student currently living with my parents in Glasgow. I'd really like to move out but want to make sure I can definitely afford it before I do. I'm looking to rent either a studio or small 1-bed in the West End or City Centre. I have looked into rent costs but have no idea as to how much living costs would amount to. Anyone know roughly how much gas, electric, phone, internet ect would cost?

    Thanks

  • How do I sync Facebook contacts with existing contacts on android phone?

Having problems with 'sync with existing contacts' option on android fb. Have made sure my contacts have the same name as on fb and even added in extra info to help but to no avail. When I chose the 'sync all contacts' option it added all fb ppl creating 2nd contact for those I already had, it even had the text history added to my brother's synced contact. Am at a loss as to what to do! Twitter syncing has worked fine

  • Which of these tents should I get?

Hi, I'm looking to invest in a fairly decent tent for the occasional camping trip. Will mainly be camping in the UK particularly the Lakes so needs to be fairly weather proof! My budget is about £40. I have found these two so far but have no idea if they are any good or not as I can't seem to find any reviews on either of them and have no idea what the technical specs really mean.

Hopefully these links work (never tried this before!) if not the tents are: Peakland Calver 400 from yeomans outdoors and Wynnster Monaco 4 from Somerset Camping

  • Samsung Galaxy Apollo or Sony Ericsson Xperia X10?

I'm looking to get a new phone and have narrowed it down to these two. The X10 would cost me £50 to upgrade and the Galaxy would be free. I really like the X10 however I'm not sure if it's on android 2.1 yet and I know it's not got pinch and zoom which I really want - anyone any ideas how good/easy the zooming is without multi touch? Also I've heard the Apollo has a very similar idea to the X10's timescape which is tbh the biggest selling point of the X10 for me so wondering how similar the Apollo's version is?

  • Which of these four phones should I get?

    I'm looking at:

    HTC 7 Mozart

    Nokia N8

    Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

    iPhone 4

Most people say the iPhone 4 however I have a feeling this is more because of the high popularity of it as opposed to technical knowledge that the iPhone is better. I'd appreciate answers from people who have either used any of these phones and can give a practical review of them or have a good idea of the technicalities of them and how they differ (preferably in a way that's easily understandable!)

  • No sound on new computer - Help Please!?

I've just bought a brand new computer with speakers in the monitor and can't seem to get the sound working. I've connected the audio cable properly and tested the headphone output as well but nothing coming out. I've checked for the driver and it says it's working properly. Also checked all volume controls and pretty much everything I can think of but it all appears fine, when sound is playing it looks like it's all working just no sound coming out and it's definitely not muted anywhere! Please please help am starting to get really fed up of having no sound!

  • Does he like me, please help, 10pts to best answer?

Ok, so I asked yesterday and no-one answered so am trying again! I know there's a lot of these questions on here but every story is different and I'd like a response to my particular situation.

So basically I was in the pub a while ago and this guy I know came up to me to tell me that this other guy likes me and that he'd said to say to me discretely! He's not the type to make these things up so I'm inclined to believe him however the guy who apparently likes me has barely ever spoken to me but is always friendly and nice, is this just cos he's to shy to make a move or is he not actually that interested. Surely if he's got someone to tell me then he must like me more than just a bit? Is he expecting me to make the first move now that I know or should I still wait for him to?

I am extremely shy when it comes to this kind of thing and have always had really humiliating experiences when asking guys out so really scared in case I've got it all wrong and he says no!

I'm feeling really confused about this situation and don't know what to do, I'm not some little kid who's making a mountain out of a molehill it's just that I've not really dated for 4 and a half years since I met my last serious boyfriend so I'm a bit out of the loop with the whole dating thing!

Any thoughts or suggestions will be much appreciated, no time wasters please, if you've nothing helpful to say then don't say it!

    Thanks

  • What are some good party songs?

I've been put in charge of music for my friends party in a couple of weeks so thought I'd make a playlist with some songs that every1 will like, and not just the 90's pop me and my friend like! Unfortunately I don't really listen to the radio much so not sure what's out there at the mo. Any suggestions would me much apreciated, I'm going down the lines of lady gaga and scissor sisters so anything that kinda fits that genre, definately no hip hop/rap stuff

  • How do you say these names for family memebers in Norwegian?

I am curious to know what Norwegians call Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle, Aunt

I'd prefer to know the familiar forms as opposed to the offical form for example in english the formal word for grandma is Grandmother but very few people actually use this. I'm aware these words may differ depending on the area of norway so would be good to know which part the words are coming from as well.

    Thanks

  • Where's the best place to get car washed inside and out in Glasgow?

My car really needs a wash, especially inside it needs a good hoover and the floor mats need a proper wash. Is there anywhere in Glasgow that provides a fairly cheap service for this. Or any garages with a self use hoover and jet wash?
