  • How much are wedding musicians paid? string/piano trio......?

    Hi there,

me and some friends have been asked to play at a wedding (canon in d) and at the wedding dinner which will be 2-3 hours.

We are all capable musicians aged 17 and 18 and looking at going to music unis/colleges. We are playing piano, violin and cello and are wondering how much we should charge.

We know we will have to practice in order for it to be of a professional quality and this is something we are willing to do.

  • tuning a viola with only pegs? and some good quartets?

i have started playing viola and it only has pegs for the lowest 3 strings and then a fine tuner on the A string, i didnt think it would be a problem but it is really hard to get the strings in tune.

has anyone got any tips on how to tune a viola using the pegs without breaking strings or them just slipping out of tune straight after? is it just a matter of practicing and getting used to it?

also does anyone know any good standard string quartets that are a bit differen?t- maybe a bit more modern that the normal classical suspects.

  • piano trio for assesment?

I'm looking for a piano trio (piano, violin and cello) piece to play. i have little knowldege of music written for this type of ensemble so need some guidence.

the performers for this piece are about grade 6 for the strings and grade 7 or so for the piano. so nothing really difficult but something that will be challenging.

  • How to teach my sister cornet/trumpet?

I have started to teach my little sister (who is 6) to play cornet. She is listening to me and she cant wait till her next lesson which i think is a good sign.

i went over how to hold the instrument and how to sit etc- and found her natural note (c) and by the end of the first lesson had her holding a c for 4 beats then rest for 4 reading from sheet music. we also did this without a cornet just clapping. What would you recommend the next step being? and how steady should i be taking the lessons?

i hope its ok, ignore any capitals missing or slight spelling mistakes as its going to be spoken. its mainly the structure and gramatical correctness i am worried about. hope you can correct any issues in it :D

and how do i pronounce "probleme"

i think the bit in the past is wrong- its meant to be when i was a student i did not recyle but i did walk everywhere

is the mich in the first line needed?

this is a question about the environment about what i do to help the environment and what others can do. i hope my german is at least understandable lol :D

we are to be asked about the outcome of an environmental issue and i think its ok but need it to be perfect - would really help me improve my german if i received some criticism.

what grade do you think this piece is? i was told its grade 8 but im finding it quite easy to play which is unheard of when i play chopin :) it seems to flow and expression is coming out in all the right places.

what do you believe are the difficulties of playing this piece well? and do you believe its a good piece to be played for a competition for pianists aged 13-16 in my local area?

  • how hard will i find it to move from cornet to tuba?

i play trumpet at around a grade 6 standard and wish to move to play tuba as i love the instrument. so im starting next week :) i know the fingerings are the same apart from the use of the 4th valve which is used on C sharps where it would be all 3 for example so that shouldn't be to much of a problem.

but how will i find the breathing and things? hope you can tell me what the difficulties will be

  • Piece for Violin and Piano for Competition?

I am looking at performing in a duet for a competiton, so i need to find some possible pieces.

i am looking for a violin and piano DUET not a violin with accompaniment on piano, we require a piece that will show judges our technical skills and show how we can play well together- interweaving parts would be great. we are both quite advanced players and will be looking at something around the grade 6-7 stage :D

hope you can help us find some great classical repetoire

  • top English university places, accessible?

i study music, hard- i started playing piano 2 years ago and have progressed at an insane rate in the last year i have

    done lots of arrangments

    entered competitions (some successful)

    many concerts

played the piano for musicals also!

but i dont know if i can make it to that grade 8 barrier for university - are the top places like RAM and oxbridge available to those who might not be a grade 8 but have determination and commitment (a second instrument of cornet/trumpet as well :P ), i play in many groups of different genres and im passionate about music, can i get into a top uni in 4 years time? im 15 now almost 16 and i am around a grade 5 in all - i can play more difficult pieces but overall im prob a grade 5.
