  • Commission quiz! What is the fair percentage for an independent rep?

I understand this topic is much more complex, but give me your best guesses. For an independent rep (no salary, no expenses paid), what is your opinion on approximate commissions for selling:

    1. A Boeing 727 aircraft for $260million?

    2. Veterinary hospital equipment valued at $200K on the average?

    3. A human cremation system at 130K?

    4. Office systems (cubicles or office machines) valued at 50K on the average?

    5. Same office equipment as above, but a bulk order for $700,000?

  • What % commission for an independent sales rep on equipment priced $60,000-$220,000?

    Opinions, please!

-We have 3 pieces of equipment at price points of $60,000, $175,000, and $225,000.

-A business will typically buy one piece of this equipment but some will buy 2-3.

-Equipment lasts 20+ years before replacement, so not many repeat sales but numerous referals to new sales.

-Each sales rep's territory is approximately 1/6 of the US (based on population) which is HUGE

-Every small town across the nation typically has 1-3 businesses that would be candidates for this equipment; larger cities have 20-90 businesses.

-An average sales typically requires 0-1 on-site visits, 3-8 emails/phone conversations, and the timeline is 0.5 to 3.5 months from first contact to sale.

-Sales reps are responsible for all expenses which primarily consists of road travel for on-site visits and installations.

-Sales rep is generally present during installation & training along with company engineers. All service calls thereafter go to the main company.

-Our company attends all major industry tradeshows and gives all leads to the sales rep in said territory.

-Territories are not contractually exclusive for reps, but as a courtesy the company kicks back a minimum of 50% the commission rate on sales made directly in their area even if the sales rep never lifted a finger. This accounts for 1 in 40 sales made in a rep's area.

-This equipment is cutting edge technology that has an ROI of 3-5 years for the business and cuts current operating costs by 35-50%. Sales were slow first 6 months, and have doubled every quarter since launch.

What percent commission would be reasonable for an independent sales rep for a $60,000 piece of equipment, and for the $225,000 piece of equipment? Thanks a million in advance!

  • Standard overall unit of energy? Joules? BTU?

I am doing an table of energy comparisons between a piece of equipment that runs on electric only, and another that runs on electric and natural gas. I used kwh for the electricity values, CF for the natural gas. What should I convert all values to for my last column of "total energy consumption?"

    I appreciate any help!

  • US honeymoon with some relaxation, romance, adventure? Multiple locations, possible roadtrip!?

Total budget is ~$5,000, Dates July 24-Aug 1, 2011. To put it simply, I am overwhelmed and frustrated! We're both 30, and so flexible with our plans that it has lead to indecision!!!

My dream honeymoon would be to spend a few days in a cottage on the water with access to canoes & hiking. I'd want the water to be warm enough to swim in, and the place to be peaceful enough for casual adventure and a bit of rest/relax time (NC? TN? Adirondacks?). Then I would want to venture to a second destination for a few days - somewhere with character, good food, more interaction - village feel or big city would be fun (Boston? Maine? NYC? FL?). I don't care if we accomplish this by car (roadtrip), train, plane... I just want a fun adventure with a bit of relaxation. We are not fixated on the US, so other suggestions are welcome. If we could do a multiple-destination ROMANTIC roadtrip with 6hrs or less between destinations, that would be a blast! Alaska sounds awesome, but I wonder if it would be too action-packed, and only one destination? We plan on an AK trip for a non-honeymoon vacation... but maybe we're wrong! Thanks in advance!

  • Copyright permissions to use music as part of an art show?

Would I be violating any copyright laws to play certain music to paintings at an art show?

Would I need the artist's permission (some of them are impossible, but some maybe still small enough to work with me)?

And advertising the types of music that will be played... is that out of the question?

  • Can you find out if files were copied on a computer?

Our enginer quit, no notice, and he now works for our direct competitor. We were bidding a job and the customer sent us a sketch of what they were looking for.......and it was OUR SKETCH that had not been distributed yet. So, we KNOW he took our files. We are a family company of 5 and this is going to kill us. Can we find proof that he took the files by looking at a history in the computer? Dirty, dirty, dirty. I might puke.

  • Our engineer quit with no notice and is now working at our direct competitor - took files. Can we do anything?

.....he was an employee of our small family company and attended birthday parties, family cookouts, etc. He came in after we had been away on an install and said, "I quit." I'm just kicking myself at this point. He struggled with not showing up to work and we worked with him on that. He made VERY nice raises and bonuses. Made $10g more than the average topout for his degree. This is all irrelevant....... didnt sign a non-disclosure so he CAN work for the company, but the files? We KNOW he took the files because we were sent a copy by a customer whose job we were bidding, and we had not shared them with the company yet. WOW.

  • What is the molarity of 50% KOH?

I know 45% KOH is 11.5M. THanks in advance!

  • Is "anhydrous potassium hydroxide" (dry KOH) the same as "potassium oxide" (K2O)?

    I know K2O + H2O --> 2KOH

So if you just add water to K2O to get KOH, then wouldn't dehydrated KOH be the same thing? You have to add water to it to get a caustic reaction as well.

I have a 60% solid form of KOH and need to know the molarity. 45% is 11.5M.

  • Should I remove these bushes?

I just bought this house and it needs some landscaping TLC this coming spring. It is in Lafayette, Indiana (hot summer, cold winter). I feel like the bushes are short and square in front of a tall square house. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I would love to use two benches (below) with cushions on them, but are they too short? I will be using a standard sized kitchen table. The benches are 16" in height.
