Does internet advertising really work?

Who else gets really annoyed with those flashing or animated adverts that obliterate your view of a website when you're trying to read something more interesting? Does this form of marketing really allow a company to make money by thoroughly annoying all their customers?

Update:

Even those "viral" campaigns you see going around - I'll never buy a Ford car - ever - no matter how good their advertising - don't they get it?!

  • Internet advertising does work but only if you know what your doing. Ever search for products online and wonder how certain sites get to the first page of google, yahoo or msn etc? This doesnt happen by chance. Its called search engine optimization and this is how super affiliates (the top 2% of all affiliates) make over 100 grand a month. Once an affiliate can get his sites into the first page of google and yahoo all he needs to do is duplicate the process for every site and he turns into a money machine. But seo is an art form that few can master and you up against tens of thousands of affiliates. I have been using an seo from india for a year and he has been doing great work . If anyone need shis info just send me your info and i will put u in touch with that person, but each site is charged based on the difficulty of the keywords.

Internet advertising does work, but I'd prefer to let the customer go to you, wish a kick up the backside. For example, submitting your website to search engines. When they type "simpsons dvd", yours comes up in the top of the list, so you've both done a bit of the work.

It really depends what you're selling, as to whether the pop ups would work. Nevertheless, you do have to click on them to close then, so they do gain attention. If it's flashing and for a credit card- money and debt is on a lot of people's minds, so it does work. If it's saying you've got a virus, click here to sort it out, then older people, or first time users tend to click. Different people are fooled by different adverts.

It works for some things. Shopping online has become very popular and how do you think people find online stores? Advertisement on the Internet. A lot of advertisement is used more for branding to build trust. Flashing advertisement is annoying, but it works, so they will we keep using it to people stop clicking the ads like that.

John Wanamaker of Philadelphia's Wanamaker's Department Store used to say that he knew that 50% of the money that he spent on advertising was wasted...but he didn't know which 50%. The nice thing about internet advertising and other forms of direct response is that you can measure much of it. And you only need a very small percentage (usually less than 2%) to call it a success. On top of that, you can learn an awful lot about your customers' buying patterns which will help you to refine your approach.

Some internet marketing works, some doesn't.

My personal opinion is that mass advertising (ie, banner ads) are a complete waste of time for most products and companies.

On the other hand, targeted search marketing can deliver HUGE. I have personally built a business doing over $1.5 million annually on the basis of internet search advertising.

It matters how you're advertising yourself. The small ad spaces no but if you are branding your name and marketing yourself through search engines then you're placing yourself on a main road with traffic that actually wants to be on your street. People who are actively looking for your product. Check out NetBiz.com it explains everything. Then call Onyx she's on the website under the contact us button. She's very nice and will help you out.

Yes it does. If I tried to sell Fords and I place my adds, then I would attract Ford interests only. If I want to sell all brands then I would set my add to attract car buyers in general and then try to sell you a Ford when I get you to my place of business. To me it doesn't matter who doesn't like the adds I place because I am ONLY interested in interested parties. I don't have time to waste on selling Chevys to Ford customers. If my add gets out to 15000 people and only ten or so are sold on it then it was worth it. These adds are being seen because the are working.
