when did L S Lowry start painting using acrylics?
I just wondered when he started painting using acrylics. Could he have painted using acrylics in 1928? Its quite important for a painting Im thinking of buying of his. I looked on the web and can't find anything. THANKYOU!

I don't think he did in 1928.Please, be very careful on your purchase, there is a hell of a lot of fake art out there.

As far as I am aware he used mainly oils and household paints. He painted a lot on cardboard so perhaps it may look like acrylics. I had a look about the net to see what I could find out and acrylics were available they were used on exteriors of buildings so maybe he used this type of paint.
Check out the links and see what you think.
I would be really wary about buying , ask the seller to allow you to have it examined by one of the art gallery experts. If they don't agree then something fishy about it......some of Lowry's paintings were stolen last year!! check out the Liverpool link.

I don't think acrylics were around in 1928.
Lowry DID paint using household paints (ie painting and decorating) - so perhaps it's been misclassified-
It wouldn't hurt to do a bit of research though. Maybe you could get in touch with someone in the Tate, and ask them to authenticate it?
