Do people always choose dogs with an uncanny resemblence to themselves?
Can this theory be extended to other pets and posessions?
I've seen two people this morning whose dogs looked like them -or was it they who looked like the dogs.....?

I've noticed this myself too!! Maybe not in every case, but usually. I work in a vet office, and I've seen so many people who have dogs that resemble themselves, at least a little. And the cat people resemble their cats a bit as well. This is something I've noticed in married couples, as well--it seems after they've been together awhile they begin to resemble one another. And sometimes, it doesn't even take long at all, just a couple of years.
Sometimes I even wonder if I might resemble my dogs a little too, but I don't know! I'm not objective enough about it in that case.

I think its the owners choosing dogs that remind them of themselves in some way (subconsciously).
Having said that I've a hyperactive crossed cairns terrier and at this stage I just let her have a good run about because I would love to have her level of energy, but I don't!! Some people think shes an ugly dog, but I see her inner beauty!! I'm referring to her previous owner who didn't even give her a proper name, so she was rescued....ah by me, and i wouldn't be without the cheeky little b!tch now.

I really don't think that's the idea when they first get up pup. It is however very funny, that after years with the owners and the dogs, living together, they REALLY do seem to take on the same characteristics.

I sincerely hope not!! I've got St Bernards, Weimaraners and a greyhound.
If I start to develope jowels and begin to drool, I've warned them that they are off to the pound!!
Although I wouldn't mind being slim and beautiful like the greyhound>

I think maybe it's like married couples, they say that after you live with someone for a long time you start to resemble them. I hope this is false as my DH is bald as an egg.

Yes I fall into that category I'm afraid, I have Old English Sheepdogs, and some times my hair is just like theirs, a long shaggy mane. LOL.
