Are you asking what degree program requires the fewest units? If so, I would guess something like liberal arts.

Post-graduate certificates tend to take the shortest amount of time (eg Open University - PG Cert in Social Science Research Methods). I seem to recall this takes one year and as it's distance-learning it doesn't require fulltime attendance as other courses may do.

For a full undergraduate degree though you are looking at a minimum of 3 years and this would increase depending on the subject studied.

An HND I think (undergrad level) is only 2 years though - it definitely requires fewer credits.

Some universities offer the option of evening programme modules which generally last a semester (eg University of Stirling Initial Teacher Education Undergraduate Evening Degree Programme, or many OU modules) but these all depend on whether you are just doing modules because you want to study that module or if you're actually working towards a degree programme or an eventual qualification.

    Hope that helps.

Yes, the shortest I know of is a higher education certificate, available at lots of UK universities. It takes one academic year.

    Post nominals: Cert(HE)

Of course, a master's degree (MA) can be done in one year, but you need a first degree to do it.

Otherwise, at most universities you can apply for second year BA entry (so that the BA program takes you two years) if you already have a degree (usually a 2:1 minimum) or, strangely, if you are studying for the priesthood!

    The Five Minute University

You may be too young to remember,

    but Father Guido Sarducci,

(the Vatican's envoy to the U.S.),

    talked about the "Five-Minute University."

In just five minutes, he could teach you,

all the average college graduate remembers

    five years after leaving school.

    His Spanish course?

"Como está usted? Muy bien gracias!"

    His business course:

"You buy something, you sell it for more."

    (Sorry that's all I remember)...

    Father Guido Sarducci claims

it only takes about five minutes

    to learn everything

    the average college graduate remembers

    five years after leaving school.

    All this for only $20,

    including a graduation ceremony,

cap and gown, and a snack...
