What is this poem about?

The Beast.

White flakey power drifts in the wind

O'er the burnt remains of the Beast.

Unseen, unknown, dead!

It could have lived forever

If it never knew its lies,

If it wasn't always right,

When it was wrong.

It grew to rule the lands,

The seas, and the skys,

But it couldn't rule itself for very long;

While half of it was starving,

The other half was obese,

To feed it's fatter half, it bleed itself to death,

Building mushrooms in the sky,

It starved itself of breath.

It is after a nuclear war, all humans are dead, they could have continued living if they never believed the lies, if they never believed they were right.

They ruled the lands, the seas, and the skys, but ultimately they couldn't rule themselves.

While half the worlds people were starving, the other half were over fed, and in order to feed the people in the rich nations, the ultimate war was begun, Nuclear bombs put the mushroom clouds into the sky,

    And everyone died.

The first part seems to me as snow drifting in the wind at a fast pace. There is a beast that could have lived forever if it had chosen to do right. The beast had a eating problem and he eventually committed suicide because of this.

    I'm just guessing

it's a good poem. i believe that it's about someone who was unbelievably powerful. they soon realised that their power was too much to bear, so they ran out into the forest, during a snow storm, and got struck by lightning.

the half of the beast that was starving, was probably it's conscience, which was telling him/her 'this is oto much power! you can't go on abusing it!'

whereas the half that was being fed was his/her greed.

Children's TV? The beast is clearly a ref. to Senor Bagpuss and mushrooms were his favourite food.

Do you know anything about it...any background? What were your first thoughts about it? ...I'm just interested because I'm not really sure what it is about. Somebody said the United States - that sounds like it could be right.

the beast is america, after 911. after katrina, after new orleans, after the 3rd world fundamentalists decided it was a new satan... to be destroyed, because of its interfering foreign policy...

when one cannot destroy by attacking from without, then one attacks from within... hiding in plain sight, charlie is in the wire...
