Should walking be promoted within society?

Question

On Monday the 19th, schools across Britain shall be taking part in the national, Walk to School campaign. 

Should such schemes be promoted within society as opposed to using public transport? If so, how?

I commend the schools that will be taking part in a walk whether its in the park or at school.
Its healthy 
one might as well do it while they still can
its good for the enviroment too.

Now using mass transportation 
is also better than driving ones car 
and causing pollution.

Yes, I agree walking is good for your health and yes children need to exercise, but with that being said in this time that we live in, not all things (such as walking to school) is safe anymore for children. Pity!

Yes I believe so, and some sort of promotion needs to be done to encourage the walking.

With urban sprawl you need efficient affordable public transport that can take you from one part of the city to another.

I dont think it's a "scheme" It sounds pretty healthy to me. Of course everyone isn't going to participate, so people will still use public transportation.

too many child molesters not a good idea IN U.S.A. 8-10 BLOCK FOR 8 YRS OLD GIRL BAD IDEA I WILL DRIVE TO PICK HER UP AND DROP HER OFF     not safe gangs ., drugs perverts so no  walk on week end with parents at park or beach    not sure about child molesters in u. k  but in 10 block radius maybe 25 t0 50 molesters in neighbor , ck your police blotter for record in your neighborhoods  luv dad cheers
