Growing strawberries hints and tips?

Today I watched TV and on it I saw a short piece on This Morning about how to grow strawberries. Being the impulsive person I am, I went and bought strawberry plants, a hanging basket, a liner and I have compost out the back.

Does anyone have any hints and tips on how to make my strawberries beautiful and successfully grow them?

Also, information on suitable climate, and best season for growing them etc etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :)

You should get sucker's coming off them, have an pot with soil in at the side of them, because you can make more plants from it, when the sucker's get long enough put the end in the pot & gentle push the end in the soil. and water them everyday in the summer, it's best watering them with rain water, I have a butt at the side of my garage that catches rain water.

Place them in full sun, and water regularly-especially when the flowers are out, the fruits need lots of water in order to produce plump, juicy strawberries. Make sure your soil is rich in organics, sandy loam, is what they like best. Pick them as they get ripe, and enjoy your fresh strawberries. You could put some slow release fertilizers in and only need to do it once. At the end of the season, mulch the dirt abit and cover your pot (if you get really cold winters)with plastic.

    Enjoy.
