Why the stars given by the person who asks, don't count for the person that answers?

stars do not involve any points at all for either asker or answerer. they are just a way to say you found a question interesting or want to follow up on it later

Stars never earn anyone, asker or giver, points whether given for a question or given to a best answer.
Thumbs up only earn points for the best answer. Thumbs down have no effect on points.
That's just the way it is, Yahoo set it up that way.
