will having a sore throat (poss cold) effect my test results?

im due to have some blood tests done to determine if i have inflammation in my system. i think to rule out arthritis of some sort. but now i have a sore throat and possibly a cold coming would this not interfere with the end results? or am i best to wait until the cold clears up? as a cold and sore throat produces imflammation dosent it?

Update:

dr frank they were 2 of the tests he ordered!? is it best to wait

One or 2 of the results may be affected by a current infection. You white blood cell count may be altered together with its differential. Also ESR and CRP may be elevated.

It would probably be best to ask your doctor about it. I know that my mother's rheumatologist was constantly testing her sed rate to determine how much inflammation she had. He also told her at one point that even having a cold would influence the test results--so if that's one of the tests he ordered I suppose your sore throat might throw the results off.

If you have a CBC test done (complete blood count), and you have an infection in your throat, the level of your white blood cells will be elevated.

If the swelling in your body isn't caused by an infection, then it shouldn't throw the test results. If it is (seems unlikely, if you're being tested for arthritis) then your WBC count will be elevated anyway.

I don't think it will affect the results but it might be worth mentioning when you go for test.

If you are really worried contacted your doctors surgery they should be able to tell you for sure.

    hope this helps
