Top of the range hire car was received ... why?

To cut a long story short: we were hit in our 12 year old Escort at the weekend. The driver, who drove a large and expensive car, admitted liability and was very sorry and even cried when she learned we needed the car for our holiday this week and that she hit us the day of my partner's birthday!

Her insurance company called within two hours of the accident to say we'd get a hire car on Monday. They said it would be 'like for like'.

The car arrived yesterday. They sent ... a Mercedes E220 CDI. Now I am no car expert but no way is that a 'like for like' for a 12 year old Escort!

I was wondering if the woman might have asked her insurance company to send an expensive hire car as a way of saying sorry ... what do you think? Can people be that nice? If she did, it restores my faith a lot!

Perhaps it was the only car available at the time the insurance company arranged the replacement.

I shouldn't worry about, her insurance arranged it.

simple, to rent one of those cars every day will be well over £50 and it comes off as a claim against the other insurer, should always refuse a hire courtesy car or ask for a corsa etc, and take a bashed up courtesy car as they always delay your repairs as well to make sure you keep the hired one at least a month which adds up to a couple of thousand quid against the other insurer if it was their fault, they all try that. just say No i will take the garage repairers dented runaround and get my car back next week please! It is a well known ploy when you are fully comp they all try this.

not at all, she probably has best insurance going, and as it was her fault you get the " finer " type of car, if someone hit her, then she would have the same class of car, as she is used to.

she just has expensive insurance that covers everything, you didnt get a chaffeur did u ?
