Memory card format issues. Is there a way I could get the pictures back?

I've accidentally formatted my camera memory card and I would like to know if, by any chance, there would be a way to get the photos back. My camera is a Canon Powershot A 640 and my card is an SD A-Data 1 GB memory card.
