The best virus protection?

I have a subscription to Norton Anti-Virus which expires in 3 more days. Someone told me that the Vipre Anti-virus, Anti-spyware program that you can get online was as good or better than Norton. Anyone know if this is true?

Also, there are so many free anti-virus programs online that you can download for free. Are they really as good as the programs you pay for? If they are, which one is the very best? My son uses my computer and heaven only knows what he might download.

Your computer shoulod have more than just one program protecting it. I suggest using AVG-Anti Virus Free by Grisoft, as your main virus protection. Also install SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, MalwareBytes and Sybot Search and Destroy. MalwareBytes and SUPERAntiSpyware should be used about once a week.

Spybot Search and Destroy and AVG should be used DAILY as they can be set up to scan. All these programs are free.

Also, if you are running Windows, ALWAYS make sure the Firewall is on, because it can protect your computer from when your son is using it ;) The dowloads are below..

    http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

P.S : All these are free, and that is good enough, dont bother with the other ones you have to pay for and have a trial version

i would say to stay with Norton, its good, and the online ones you see are just trials, like 30 days free.

also school systems use Norton so its good

Try Spyware Terminator and System Protect. The downloads are on http://crawler.com/products

If you want to pay for security, I use McAfee Total Protection. You can buy it at Fry's electronics if there is one nearby and you can usually get rebates on it there.
