The purpose of reporting a burglary is so that if you have serial numbers for any items that are missing, you can have those items entered into a national database called NCIC. For whatever reason, if that item is ever queried in that system it will say that it was stolen and the police can look into it further, sometimes they catch criminals this way. Another purpose for reporting burglary is so that you can have a report on file, count the statistic of that sort of crime, and request extra patrols in your area if you want. Another thing you may be wondering is if officers can take their own reports. The answer is no. They cannot take a report on themselves or their own house being burglarized. So, they don't HAVE to if they don't want to, but yes, they will call the police.

If it's in progress the burgler gets shot and killed. A good thing.
If its "discovered" he does like everyone else. He calls the on call shift and they come over and take a report. What did you expect? If his home gets burglarized when he isn't home its because he is protecting your community so where is the humor in that?

Of course he does and they arrive with lights flashing and sirens blaring. You try getting somebody out if you have been burgled.

Yes, he does, and will be treated the same as anyone else - they might come straight away or they might arrive days later. They might do a good job, they might not. It really is no different.
