Is it really bad to buy puppies online?

Would you still consider buying puppies /dogs online

after this serious discovery, by the RSPCA?

Read this article.

This just goes to show that, after all said and done,

Buying online is a bad decision.

To be honest anyone who is stupid enough to buy a puppy online with out going to inspect the breeder, the dogs, the housing and check all the paper work out properly somehow believing they are buying from good breeder deserve to get ripped off.

It may sound harsh but its people like them that keep puppy farms in business, its just common sense that a good breeder will want to check the buyer out properly and would never sell online, don't get me wrong finding a breeder online is not a problem providing you check them out but buying a pup online without going to inspect everything is never right, just like getting them from pet shops no good breeder sells to pet shops either.

Buying puppies online without first seeing them, you mean? You don't really give any information at all. If you want an opinion, though, I would strongly advise against it. Setting up a web page can be done by anyone, and some puppy mills have very attractive websites. Still they are no more and no less than puppy mills and should not be encouraged. The same thing goes for BYBs and they fall under the came category as puppy mills. Buy a puppy, sure, but go to a reputable breeder (check with the AKC) and then you'll have a puppy which has been properly raised and is health tested, in addition to having started on socialization. You know what breed it is also, whereas with a puppy mill or a BYB you can never be sure.

  • Who cares where you get a dog if it's a good dog. I know people who've bought WUSV champions on the internet. Enough said.

If you don't know/trust the person's reputation, don't buy the dog. Notice the first line said "cheap pedigree dogs". When you're paying $15,000-$20,000 for a well known champion, or $2,000 for a puppy from a well known, highly respected breeder, there is no issue.

I think Petfinder.com is sponsored by Animal Planet, though. The problem is how do you know a website is legitimate? How can you be sure your papers you get with your puppy are legitimate? I think Petfinder deals mostly in rescues and shelters.

I would just say, " dont shop, adopt". the best place to get puppies is at the shelters. never online unless from an online SPCA site or nokill shelter. Never buy puppies from unkown sources because the peopl that you buy from could be mistreating there animals by interbreeding them to much. AKA puppy mills. Basiclly, i you want to make a big diffence in a dogs life, get it from an SPCA or no kill shelter. hope it helped

  • I found Rocko online...from petfinder and he's great

I got a apbt/doberman/mastiff pup off of a lady from kijiji and had to put him down due to aggression

it depends on the site...if its a breeders site, and you can physically GO see the parents, see the ch. titles etc

    then thats okay

puppyfinder is not a site I would go to

it depends, the Akita rescue I got my girl from is amazing. One of the best Akitas rescues in the country in my opinion, and I found them on pet finder. But really pet finder is the only place I'd trust, and even then I look into who's selling the dogs to make sure they're legit.

Depends - there are legit and caring good breeders with websites. You have to be very cautious as to buying online.

I've purchased my two Ocicats online thru reputable breeders and had no problems.

I found the puppy I was lookinng for online. I live in Mexico 325mi south of Tucson. The nearest puppy of the breed I wanted was in Houston Tx. We Xchanged Emails & made arrangements for the 12wk old pup to be flown by Continental to Tucson. I drove up to Tucson & met my new puppy that eavening. All went well, my pup is now 11mos old, spayed, homed & healthy. I occasionally Xchange Emails w\the breeder still. She Njoys pictures of her former brood. So it is possible to find & make arrangements for Dlivery of the pup of your choice online.

If you want to feel like you've made a real difference as a dog owner, adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue group. There are few other ways to make such a huge difference in another creature's life.
