Should Liverpool purchase Landon Donovan's contract from the MLS before Everton decides to do so?

He's already proving to be the best on the pitch for Everton and soon will be regarded as one of the premiere players in the entire EPL.

@perfectlyflawed: I think it's really unfair to judge Donovan's time with either Leverkusen or Munich as "failures". At Leverkusen he was very young and at Munich, honestly, he was never given much of a chance. It's a little hard to break into the lineup when the guys ahead of you are Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni. It also sounds like a lot of players and personnel there were pretty cold towards him for no good reason. Munich actually were interested in buying Donovan's contract regardless, but would not pay what MLS wanted.

@ the OP: Donovan has been vital to Everton's success in his two games, but I wouldn't go as far as to call him the best on the team. Howard is one of the best goalkeepers in the EPL and Pienaar has been the real offensive star as of late. It's downright silly to say he will be one of the best in the EPL. Donovan is a great and extremely underrated footballer, but he's just shy of truly world class.

Also, nobody is buying Donovan's contract. He's going back to MLS at the end of March. He just signed a deal with Galaxy until 2013. And neither Liverpool nor Everton would be willing to pay what MLS would want for Donovan if they did want to buy his contract.

    LOL.

C'mon man, Landon Donavon is doing OKAY at Everton after two games. He's not the best on the pitch for Everton. He was outshone by his team mates Fellaini and Pienaar in today's match against Man City. He's EPL standard but he's no Didier Drogba, Steven Gerrard or Wayne Rooney! Donovan is a good pro and I'm sure Everton would like to sign him up on a permanent deal but he's not as good as you think he is.

He's a good player who is obviously talented, but let's not forget that he failed to make an impact in the Bundesliga, where he failed to score in 7 games for Leverkusen, and 6 games for Bayern Munich. In total, he has played 15 European club games and scored a grand total of 0 goals. Now Wayne Rooney has scored 15 goals in 21 league appearances this season and is rightfully one of the leading players in the PL. That is the standard set, and at the moment Donovan does not fulfil that criteria. I'll be reserving my judgement for a few months time.

locloc - In that case, it's unfair to judge any young player as a failure... Donovan was 19-23 during his Leverkusen years, pretty standard breakthrough time for a talented young footballer. I'm not saying he's a failure - far from it, he's always looked like a player with a lot of ability, I'm just saying that he has a hell of a lot to prove. Actually, Bayern declined to extend his loan beyond those six appearances... Just out of interest, what would MLS want for Donovan?

Don't get carried away mate, he's doing OK with Everton but as far as being one of the best players in the premier league.

Maybe you should clean the sh!t out of your eyes.

Besides that. Why should anyone buy Donovan from the MLS? He is under contract to the LA Galaxy.

Yes i'd say so. I think after Everton got him they could have given them an option to purchase him after the loan so if Liverpool want to get him they need to start negotiating from now. A bid of AT LEAST £10 million would probably be the price tag because you need to remember that he just signed a new 5 year contract a couple months ago.

Liverpool are not that good anyhow. They are just all losers. They need more practice and go to division 2 or 3. Maybe they will have the chance there with Watford. Donovan will be mad in Liverpool. Everton is the right choice.

There's more chance of Woy winning World Cup with Rwanda than Landon going to them

Steady with hyperbole. But yes, he's made an impressive start. Looks like he'll make an impact but it's still early days for anyone to risk buying out his contract.

Btw, his corners are consistently excellent. Fantasy managers take note. 6m is a decent price.

He played good today especially with those corners but he's not the best in the EPL by no means. I hope he stays there though

    are you a hype man?

he's doing very well but it's still too early to know if he's an EPL impact player.if he continues to impress then I'm sure someone will bid on him.liverpool might.everton might extend his loan.

it really could be anyone who's looking for a quality winger or forward.

aston villa could even be a suiter.
