Can't get drive A to read a floppy disk?

Trying to get an old floppy disk drive to read floppies using Windows 2000 NT. The GUI says all is well and driver ok, however green read light comes on but a message saying disk ID not found ???

If the green light is on all the time then the data cable is the wrong way round.

If the light only comes on when you put the disc in and it reads then you may need to clean the disk heads. You used to be able to buy cleaning discs for this, probably difficult to find these days!

    Can you format the FD?

Is the security tab open? (in the corner of the disc)

Are you sure the drive is listed in the BIOS? Many allow you to disable the FD controller so although the disc may appear to read the drive is not listed in the BIOS, though in this case it would not show in My Computer as a listed drive either.
