Stopped breastfeeding and TTC?

Hi

I have a 19 month old son. He was conceived on the first try when I was 34 years old. When he was 17 months old (in mid January) we started TTC for baby number two. At that stage I was still giving my son one breast feed every day or every second day.

To cut to the chase, I did not get pregnant as I did the first time for our first baby and nor did I get pregnant the second month so I cut out the breast feeding altogether. That was six weeks ago and now it is the third cycle and AF has just turned up.

I realise that every month is different and that my age may be a factor but wondered if the fact I only stopped breastfeeding altogether just over six weeks ago may have a factor also. I used to be really regular before prengancy. While b/feeding they were random and now my cycles are slowly coming back and this is the second time in a row my cycle has been 27 days.

Any opinions?

I was 34 years old when I conceived my daughter, she is now 10 months old and it took us 1 month to get pregnant with her, now we are ttc#2. I stopped breastfeeding because I didn't want to conceive while still nursing my daughter.

In your case it may just be a matter of a couple of cycles to get your periods regular, you could try an ovulation predictor kit which will tell you when ovulation will occur within 12 to 24 hours. It does this by tracking the LH hormone surge which happens before ovulation and will give you an idea as to whether your hormones are doing what they're suppose to be doing. Probably not a bad idea to use them I just started myself. This is only my 2nd month of ttc.

I'm in the same boat and questioning things as well my age, etc., but really I think it's because conception occured so easily the first time so our expectations are higher!! Hang in there it will happen.....Please keep us posted. good luck

I can't say for sure, but I can share my experience...

I have a 12 month old. He is still nursing twice a day, and I didn't start having my periods until he was 9 months old. They've been semi-regular for the past few months. We just started trying for number 2, and I don't plan on weaning our son until he's ready.

I don't know that nursing would really affect getting pregnant, as long as you're having your period. Granted, getting your cycle back to normal will definitely help, but I think you were just really lucky to get it on the first try the first time around. I'm in my early 20's, and it took my husband and I 3 months to get pregnant the first time around.

    Good luck!

I accept as true with mommy_2 you could attempt convincing him that as a large boy, a sippy cup is the element to do. I nursed the two certainly one of my childrens, and became into forced to by surprise decrease my daughter off at 18 months by way of fact I had a terrible sinus an infection and had to bypass on antibiotics. It became into stressful for the 1st week or so (numerous frustration and tears), surprisingly at bedtime. It additionally helped that once she have been given quite upset, my husband could take her out of the room and convenience her with out me around. It helped her understand that nursing became into no longer an selection. I made unsleeping efforts to maintain lined and to no longer even enable her see me in a bra. before each little thing, she did no longer purchase into cow's milk in any respect, yet I in simple terms stored offering till she gave in and embraced it. At 22 months, your son will understand that variety is a factor of existence, and at an identical time as screaming is a toddler's way of coping, he will regulate. so some distance as conceiving, your OB is stable. The hormones that look after lactation additionally inhibit ovulation. it is probable which you will no longer launch an egg till approximately 4-6 weeks when you have weaned your son. There are some exceptions, yet very few. terrific of success to you, and draw close in there. at an identical time as weaning slightly one is confusing, you likely will appreciate seeing your boy pass right into a clean point of independence (to boot as having slightly greater time to your self - and there is not any longer something incorrect with feeling that way :)
