    Look up Matthew 18:18

Interestingly if you read the Young's literal version of the Bible it give a very clear interpretation for this passage.

It says more or less, that God has the power in fact and not man.

Verily I say to you, Whatever things ye may bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever things ye may loose on the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.

    It happened after the Transfiguration.

Jesus said"Who do people say that I am" and they answered "Some say you are Moses, some say Elias, others still Elijah or one of the prophets" "But you" said Jesus, "who do you say that I am?" and Simon answered "You are the Christ the Son of the Living God" Jesus answered him"Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father who is in heaven. And I say to you You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven, that whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound also in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be considered lost also in heaven" Then He charged them to tell no one what they had seen.

Interesting Fact: These are the verses in the Bible that lead the Catholics to proclaim they are the true church and that the Popes have run in an unbroken line right back to St. Peter

Matthew 6:9-13. These verses are referred to as the Lord's Prayer.

    ✞ Sounds like the Lords prayer..The Lord's Prayer. Matthew 6:9-13 - Luke 11:2-4.

    Our Father in heaven,

    hallowed be your name,

    your kingdom come,

    your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 16:19, spoken by Jesus to Peter: "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

There is another one referring to forgiving sins, very similar -- John 20:23, spoken to all the apostles: "If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

Whatsoever I have sealed on earth is sealed in heaven, and whatsoever I have loosed on earth, the same is loosed in heaven.

It refers specifically to the sealing power of the priesthood.

However, similar words are used in the "Lord's Prayer":

"..Thy will be done - on earth as it is in Heaven..."
