Why do I have to be British?

The Irish are irish, the Scots, Scottish, Welsh, Welsh, so why do I have do be British and not English? It is not a matter of race but culture.

If I cannot call myself English, I'd rather be European. Why does this appear on every ethnicity form I complete? any ideas...sensible, educated answers please.

many Thanks

Scottish, Northern Irish, Welsh & English are all British...All of their passports say British.

    Republic of Ireland is Irish.

    Simple.

    - "I have never seen English, Scottish or Welsh on any ethnic questionnaire; only British, Irish or Other."

^ Scottish is on the national census.

In Scotland, people will only be able to pick Scottish or British in the next one - not both.

Well, considering britain is like a nation, that has countries in, we are all a part of britain.

You are english and I'm welsh..but we're both British to the outsiders.

Because lots of people dont no bout other countries in britain so they call us british.

but because we're IN britain, we say welsh english irish scottish.

Its like when we say about the Europeans..we dont always say french german or italian, we just say european.

Lol we are British citizens with English. Scottish, Irish, or Welsh heritage.

On most forms it either says "white british" or the options of English, Scottish, etc.

edit: jordan shut up m8, of course you are bloody british, anyone can become a british citizen, it's our ethnicities (such as English and Scottish) that we are talking about.

Source(s): And for the prick saying English is the same as British.. it isn't, the English are the least British of the UK. The Welsh and Highland Scottish are the real British.

I have never seen English, Scottish or Welsh on any ethnic questionnaire; only British, Irish or Other.

And as to nationality on a questionnaire; British or UK, or, Irish or Eire (or whatever country you come from) is acceptable.

I have never seen Welsh, Scottish or English on a nationality list, it's always British. I am Welsh, and I am ashamed to be British. I would also rather put European than British.

The English are a Germanic tribe

Because there is only one passport for the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

    So your nationality is British.

I know what your saying, but unfourtunatley you are British. Im sorry. I heard if you tell people from other countries that you are Australian, they will sort of believe you at first.
