When did your baby say ''Mummy'' or ''Daddy''?,which did they say first?

To clear up a light-hearted competition between me n the hubby lol!...We have a 4 month old baby girl who has just started babbling. My hubby says that she has said ''Daddad'',whereas I too have heard her say words close to ''mummy'' but as much as I would like to think she was 'actually' saying it,simply putting it down to babbling??.

At what age did your little one say those special words??

(Time waisters don't bother!)

Thanks xxx

Aubree started saying "Da-Da" around 6 1/2 to 7 months! It was extra special because her Daddy had been away for military training since she was 3 weeks old. She said it for the first time during his first weekend back home. Andrews (her Daddy) Dad was holding her saying "Aubree, where's Da-Da..Da-Da..Da-Da" and she picked it right up. Of course in the weeks leading up to him coming home I was constantly telling her that Da-Da was coming home soon so I may have helped! :-) She still hasn't said Ma-Ma yet. :-) I think she's probably just babbling at this point but once she gets a little older she'll understand who "Da-Da" is!

Daddy or Dada usually comes first, in my experience anyway

It's just babbling and this age but by the time your child is about 1 she will understand the meaning of Mummy and Daddy, just now she doesn't

Well before I even left the hospital she said Mamamamama but obviously she didn't know what she was saying. She said Mama first later but she still finds it hard to say at 10 months. Dadadada started after Bababa and it usually starts as just getting used to sounds but she does know that it means Dada now.

Hate to break it to you, but I'd guess your husband is right. 9 times out of 10, they say "dadadada" first. But if it makes you fell any better, she's not saying "dadada" meaning daddy or dad, she's learning her D sound. It's usually the 1st they learn. The M sound typically comes a while later. My son said dada first (my in laws practically crammed it down his throat). I can't remember whose name he said 1st & actually meant who he was talking about though.

  • Chase said "Dada" at 6 months old and "Mama" at 8 months.

Ma-Ma actually came first for mine at about 6 months and Da-Da was closer to 7 months.

My daughter said daddy first and she was about 15 months old. She was speech delayed.
