Can the US military today, beat yesterday's Native Americans? Can't beat bums in caves w/guns from 70's?

Life today is very different from life in the pioneer age, and I shall explain key differences :) Please note that I refer to people as 'white men' and 'Indians' not out of ignorance, but because its shorter to type.

Pioneers: The Indians were disorganized, spoke different languages, and did not work together to resist the white men; the white men worked together to eradicate the Indians. White men spread diseases that wiped out Indians, since Indians had no natural defenses. The Indians also (sadly) were suppressed over several centuries, so it has been a long decline.

Afghanistan: The insurgents all work together and speak the same language. They do not fear bio-warfare since that is banned world-over. The Americans have only had less than a decade to fight them.

In short, the Americans are fighting a much more organized and tough enemy than the Indians were to generations of white men, and they have not had the time to take them all down. I'm sure that if today's military were dropped back in time, they'd have the Indians dead in a week.

So its hard to compare the two, because they are two different fighting forces in two very different times.

Don't make a blanket statement about the best equipped and best trained military that the world has ever seen. Our military has not lost a battle where there were allowed to fight. Out military currently is handicapped by "Rules of Engagement" The same problem that they had in Viet Nam. A close friend of mine was a battery commander (artillery) in Viet Nam. A REMUF major come to his position and tried to get him court martialed because his people were carrying loaded weapons, befor they were actually attacked by the beligerants. Out military can win any conflict excep those with the polititions.

I really hate it when civilians talk out there a$$, and pretend to know whats going on in the world, look at the deathtoll combing both wars we've lost about 7000 ppl from our military, the deathtoll of iraqis afgan and others is at 250,000 and thats with our hands tied behind our back, do us all a favor and read the newspaper before you start mouthing off about $hit you dont know anything about,
