Why does the Sat Nav in my car take so long to get a signal.?

I have a Sat Nav in my car, its only about 6 months old, but it takes between 30 minutes and one hour to triangulate a signal. Is it my system that is at fault, or does every one have this problem.

There are no tall buildings etc in the way.

That is a ridiculous amount of time to find a signal! I mean, really, absurd. I would consider five minutes a long time to wait.

I would return it to the place you bought it as all devices have at least a one-year manufacturer's warranty. You cannot be expected to set off an hour early for every journey in case it takes that long for the system to start operating correctly.

Try using an external antenna with your nav system.
