Why did the Chilean miners thank God for their rescue?

Vast resources in terms of money, skills and resources were put into their rescue and yet they virtually all thanked God. We can admire their bravery - but their logic leaves much to be desired.

Update:

Earlier this year, in another part of Chile, nearly 500 people died in an earthquake. Where was God then?

They might have asked why god put them there in the first place.

"The God of the previous testomony is arguably the main gruesome character in all fiction: jealous and pleased with it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving administration-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty, ethnic air purifier; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomachochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." -Richard Dawkins What a sadistic SOB to place the miners and their families by way of this variety of trial. This became a man made accident, and a man made rescue. supply blame and credit the place it belongs. This had no longer something to do with stupid superstitions.

Whether it is true or not that there is a God who has individual, personal love of people, how can it be known? Is good fortune evidence of God’s love? Is bad fortune evidence of God’s hate, or perhaps just the absence of love? Having been saved, how can one know that it was due to God’s love, and not simply the dedicated perseverance and ingenuity of mere mortals? There are atheists in foxholes and there are atheists in mines, just not any of these 33 men.

Because they prayed and asked God to Save them, and He Did. He arranged for vast resources in terms of money, skills and human resources to be put into their rescue. Now ask the miners whether they promised to give God the glory if they were rescued?

they probably thanked whatever it was that provided the resuers with the brains to learn how to execute such a risky rescue if they are brought up to believe that this power comes from something called god then it was a natural thing to do.

in answere to your next observation, being brought up to believe in a god they would quite likely have been taught to believe that this god only lets them carry their cross for as far and for as long as they can until they can no longer cope, then the cross is taken from them and they no longer have pain or worry. hope this helps but I doubt it.

Source(s): remembering all the stories I was told as a child and never telling them to my own children, I preferred them to have faith in themselves and to be grateful for all those who helped to shape their lives and that took trust.

He was with them All the time.

And without Him, they would never have got out.

God Reigns, Glory to Him and bless the Chilean Miners for attributing their safe rescue to Him*

If credit is due the lord for saving these people, he's also to blame for putting them there in the first place.

I take it then that you have no reason to thank God for anything because you are an atheist, right?..

So let the miners be, if they thank God its because they believe in God..

Don't try to dictate who one can thank..

Because God said in him is everything, we would have nothing were it not given us by HIM! We think we make things but we do not make them it is him making them through us. He is our all in all and had he wanted to snuff out those lives he could have. Remember the Utah miners? None survived. God is the giver and taker of life!

Considering our last president sent our troops to war because god personally told him to also defied logic.

Because anything good happens, god blesses you. Anything bad happens and He works in mysterious ways ;) This Man in the sky is in total control of everything. Don't you know that? And He loves you and He needs money!!!!! And religion pays no taxes. The American dream at work.
