Do we automatically gain weight in winter?
I have been eating the same amount of calories, doing the same amount of exercise but have gained almost 2 kilos!
What's going on?! Is it "winter weight gain"?

I've heard lots of opinions on this. The one that seems to make the most sense is that it's the cooler weather that causes our bodies to hold on to our food for a while longer, kind of like a instinct our bodies have from long ago

No we don't. Clearly you are mistaken. The three main reasons that people put on weight in the winter are lack of physical activity, comfort eating and over-indulging at Christmas. Those are not automatic. Those are choices.

It's not a "defense mechanism." You're less active in the winter, so you gain weight. Think about it, our natural habitat is probably somewhere in the tropics, where we can live year round naked. You don't really think clothes and heaters are natural, do you?

Yes, we do in cold climates. It is ancient biology. Your body adds more weight to deal with the cold of winter. Nothing you can do really. It is a defense mechanism.
EVERY animal in nature that lives in cold climates puts on weight in the winter. Humans are no different.
